"I felt we spent too much for the quality of food we received. The carpaccio should of been labeled as a salad since that what it pretty much what it was. The focus was all the leafy greens covering up how little your are getting of the thinly sliced beef. Calamari was rubbery and chewy. Sadly the tourist traps on the wharf and Cannery row would be comparable. Venison tenderloin was very under seasoned and just tasted of grill markings. I had to leave the parts that I could not chew due to how under cooked it was. It was probably too cold when it got seared on the grill. Over cooked on the outside and under cooked on the inside. Sauce had a weird bitter taste that just intensified the seared flavor. My child’s rib dinner was very tough meat. I couldn’t believe that a chef checked the ribs and was like yeah that is okay. Our first visit to the Rio Grill was a nice meal. We only had two sandwiches and drinks but were very pleased with the service ambiance and food quality

We have been going to Rio Grill for almost 30 years. Many things have changed over that time , but it remains excellent with ongoing menu updates and ownership changes. Great food, service and bar, as always.

Food great as always calamari and salmon BLT. Decadent desserts! Warm and friendly service. Dined outside on patio with overhead heaters keeping us comfortable. Almost forgot the blood orange margaritas. My fav!!! View menu

As always, our lunch at Rio was excellent. So sad that no more outdoor dining will be available for a while as it will be missed. Special thanks to Sparticus and Elbert for the outstanding service. I sincerely hope that the government will give assistance to this and other local businesses to keep them open and their employees working. I look forward to the time when we can again go to and enjoy the Rio Grill

We have been to the Rio Grill many times. It's the best restaurant on the Monterey Peninsula. We had lunch and the food, as usual, was excellent as was the service. There when we needed them but not hovering. Of course we ate outside but at least we weren't out on the street or in a parking lot. You can sometimes get a table for lunch without a reservation but you always need one for dinner. At dinner, if you need to you can get two heatersone on a pole above you and one blowing warm air around your feet

"The food was good. However, the service was awful. While we were the only 2 POCs in the dining room, we were treated very differently from the other diners. While we sat down at the same time as another couple and ordered first, the other couple received their water, glass of wine, soup and appetizer and ate most of it before we even received our sparkling water and Diet Coke. The assorted cheese platter we ordered looked like it had sat around for a few days before being served to us. The mushroom soup was good. The King Salmon and the sand dab fish entree were both very tasty. All the while we were there, the waiter was engaging in small talk and checking on the other tables. We received none of this. No drink refills, nothing. I asked to substitute the seasonal vegetables on my sand dab entree for Swiss chard. The waiter said of course. But about 20 minutes after we finished eating our appetizers, we were told that they were out of Swiss chard but we could get spinach instead. We declined and took the seasonal vegetables. We waited another 20 minutes (40 minutes total) after we had already finished our cheese plate and soup for the entrees to arrive. The couple we mentioned earlier was long gone. The dining room had two other tables eating. It was not crowded. Just all around lousy service. They also added a $5 credit card convenience fee and calculated the tip with this fee included (I did not realize until after). Total for 1 cup of soup, assorted cheese plate, 2 entrees, 1 Diet Coke and a bottle of Pellegrino with tip included was $158. I don’t mind paying high prices if the service is worth it but clearly it was not. Do better."
