"Very enjoyable dinner at this fine dining restaurant. Service was good, not perfect due to the amount of tables our server had. At one point, we could tell he was in the weeds because he sent another server over to take our entree order. When telling us the specials, he never mentioned the Tomahawk Steak as an option, but we heard another server mention it to the people at his table. He also didn't ask if we wanted any kind of a sauce with our steaks and it wasn't until I was halfway through my filet when I realized that I failed to order the Bearnaise sauce which I usually like with my filet. Bummer...my bad, but I do wish he had tried to upsell us on a sauce with our steak. Overall, he did a good job but it's fine dining and very expensive so my expectations are high in a restaurant like Pellana. We started with salads, which were very generous and good although my Caesar had way too much white lettuce in it. My husband had the porterhouse and I had the filet. Both very good and cooked to order. We had a side of grilled asparagus and a side of onion strings and both were tasty. The bread basket is a must there. Popovers, an Italian style bread and thin slices of what tasted like cinnamon toast. Drinks were done perfectly. For dessert we shared the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The only downside of the evening was seeing people being let in wearing hoodies, jeans and sneakers. They do state proper attire, but Pellana really doesn't enforce it which given the atmosphere and the cost to dine there they should. If people want to dine out wearing jeans, sneakers and hoodies they should eat elsewhere where that kind of attire fits into the atmosphere. But other than that, we enjoyed our meal at Pellana."

"A couple weeks ago I headed to Stoke for some cocktails with a few coworkers. This was the first time any of us had been and we were pleasantly surprised. We learned that the establishment places a large emphasis on being a part of the community by using local ingredients and serving products from the surrounding area. Stoke offers many of the Charlotte and North Carolina beers which placed the state on the craft brewery map. Some of the beers on tap include NoDa Brewing Company, Wooden Robot Brewery, Triple C Brewing Co. and Wicked Weed Brewing. They also have a great list of unique craft cocktails. Many of the cocktails on their menu are old classics with a twist. We learned that one of these concoctions, The Uptown Sour, intrigued a Marriott executive so much that he jumped on a plane so he could try it for himself! The desire to use local ingredients can also be seen in their food. We had a few of their appetizers (pretzel brioche, beef bone marrow, crispy oysters) which were all amazing. We could tell that this group understands the importance of top notch service when the Director of Eat Drink, Sean Potter, delivered our appetizers to our table providing us with an informative description of the ingredients and preparation techniques. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. I loved Stoke's open kitchen design which compliments the modern yet welcoming atmosphere very well. Although the restaurant is located within the Charlotte Marriott City Center, this is definitely not your average hotel restaurant. Chef Chris Coleman is doing a fantastic job which has created national attention. Stoke was listed on USA Today's Top 20 Restaurants to Try This Fall (2016) and that's a well-deserved accolade. You should definitely add Stoke to your must try list in Charlotte."
