"The WORST service I've had in years of living in San Francisco, dining in budget to the finest upper class dining establishments. Four of us were celebrating the birthdays of two of us dining that night. Two guests drove up from Carmel specifically to dine at Umami Burger. The other two are fans of Roam Burger but thought we'd try Umami Burger. (Everyone loved the food). Three of us ordered standard burgers off the menu with all sorts of umami-flavored toppings. One of us has food allergies and food intolerances. And a serious auto-immune disease. She ordered a regular burger off the menu but asked to have no pickle, mustard or onion. And cooked well-done. That's all. Just hold three toppings but make sure the cheddar and the special umami ketchup is on the burger. When she politely stated what she wanted to order the waiter ACTUALLY ROLLED HIS EYES in the most condescending, snobby manner as if to say she shouldn't be dining at Umami Burger if she can't eat a burger with lots and lots of stuff on it like her companions. As if this were not enough to ruin her own birthday dinner with her brother-in-law who recently had a stroke and just wanted a great burger to celebrate his birthday the runner got in on the act. When he delivered the three burgers to her companions piled high with stuff he was fine. He called out the type of burger she had ordered. Then he DID A DOUBLE-TAKE AND LOOKED AT HER BURGER AND SNEERED AT IT INSULTINGLY because half the toppings were missing The burgers were the best she'd ever had in San Francisco, better than Roam Burger. The fries were better, too, than Roam. But she and her spouse are NEVER going to set foot in Umami Burger again. I am that chronically ill and allergic woman celebrating two very important birthdays that night. I live not far from Umami and Roam. I expect an apology from Umami's management for ruining my casual but much anticipated birthday dinner. Also, train your staff to treat people like guests!"
