"I remember Umami burger as the pioneer of the craft burger era in Los Angeles. It was my favorite burger in town.A few years later they got bought out by SBE who decided to start cutting costs. Well, around 2018 I ate there and noticed something was different. The burger was still good but it just didn’t have the wow factor.I asked the waiter if the recipe had changed and he said that their meat was no longer fresh, it was frozen. Disappointing, but no big deal.Fast forward to today, I go into Umami for the first time in several years and notice the menu is unrecognizable. I wanted the classic Manly Burger but it was no longer on the menu. The menu now consists of double patty “smash burgers” on their new “squishy buns”.Disappointed but thought it couldn’t be that bad. Maybe I’ll be surprised.Well, I’m here to let you know that the burger I ate today was thee most foul burger I’ve ever eaten in my life. Not exaggerating at all.The bun was a soggy mess. The meat tasted chewy and old. They piled on these oily chopped onions. I was just shocked. Literally tasted toxic.RIP Umami burger. No wonder the restaurant was empty during prime time lunch rush. How did you go from the best burger in town to the worst burger in the country? What a tragedy."
