"I pass this restaurant all the time. On this day a friend invited me to Jazzercise so afterwards I stopped in after Jazzercise to see if I could grab a bite for dinner. I was very pleasantly surprised; while it was a very big location it was cozy, clean and light. The food looked fresh and appealing. When I asked the young lady how much for dinner she stated $11.00. I said in that case I will take 2 I will have one for tomorrow. There were about 6 or 7 meat choices. I selected baked chicken for one and stewed chicken for my other. I also selected to put yellow rice and pinto beans for one, and yellow rice and black beans for the other. I was so excited to get home and shower ? from working out and be able to enjoy one of my meals that I left my cell phone. I got home, showered and was about ready to dig in when I realized it's quiet I haven't heard any pings for messages from my phone. I was looking all around the house, upstairs downstairs, and went back out to the car. NOTHING!!! It now hits me I must have left it at the restaurant. I throw on something more decent to go out of the house. I get to the restaurant after almost two hours. I walk in and the young lady immediately says you left your phone. Let me tell you she made my night!!! I could have kissed her. People don't always do the right thing! By the time I get back home my friend calls and she says I was calling to see if you had your phone as someone from the restaurant went over to the Jazzercise studio before the instructor left and told her someone left their phone in the restaurant. The instructor started to call around trying to find out who left the phone. I informed her it was me but I'd already gone back to pick it up. While the food was very good at the restaurant I feel the honesty and respect of the workers are incredible and that will definitely have me patronizing this restaurant every chance I get!!!!! ?Kid-friendliness: While the dining area isn't very big, it's welcoming to everyone especially families.Parking: There is some parking in front but a lot more parking on the side of the strip of stores."

"First of all, we got there around 4:00 p.m. the food look dry as hell. I think the best video or shot that they take is early in the morning when the food is completely done and fresh. You can tell no one's moved the food around for hours and then you had a waitress that insists on giving you the family portion when it was just me. so I stood there debating with her and kind of arguing back and forth letting her know that she is practically giving me a pound of rice I'm only one person and she just kept insisting on family value is cheaper. On top of all this against me just leaving, The entire food was not what I ordered. No beans, no maduros, crispy dry rice and very salty chicken. absolutely not worth it. Other customers were asking why did the food look dry and old..."

"This review is not based on food or service, just an unpleasant recent experience. My family and I are regulars here and we are usually very content with the food and service, however on the morning of June 3rd we left the establishment very sad, confused and disappointed. My husband and I were seriously over charged for breakfast. We were each charged $22 for boiled green plantains with chuleta. So our breakfast included 2 breakfast plates of green boiled bananas with meat 2 passion fruit juices and 1 to go small dessert $62. It made us sad to be overcharged because we have been supporting this business since day 1 especially during the covid lockdown . I understand that inflation has had a negative effect on businesses and everyone in general but No one should have to pay $22 for boiled green bananas. My suggestion is keep the prices at a reasonable range."

"I was so looking forward to eat at this restaurant as my friend has been going here for many years since the time she lived in BX until now years after moving to the DC area. She has always raved about their food so we knew it was a must to stop by there last night to get our plates of food to take with us back home. We bought rez guisado con arroz y habichuelas. She also bought a small portion of chicken guisado because she noticed the portion of the rez guisado they served was small. Everyone’s demeanor seemed as though they were just ready to just close shop and be on their way. Granted it was late when we arrived (around closing) but there was still food available and rendering proper customer service and good food is a must at any hour for a food establishment. One particular lady was not very pleasant and when I tried to carry a short conversation with her about how we were taking the food back home to show how excited we were, she didn’t say a word to me until I repeated the comment to her in Spanish twice more loudly the second time (although politely) so she could tell I knew she was being rude. Her reaction when she did respond was “ah ok” and then she proceeded to serve the rest of my order. Also my portion of red beans/habichuelas were served in a small plastic container and when I opened it today to reheat my plate of food at home there was literally no beans and nothing but the sauce in the container (check the pictures). The rez guisado was basically three chunks of meat with three potatoes and barely any sauce was added. The yellow rice was very dry as well. Overall the taste of the food was mediocre and so was the service. My friend says the quality of the food has definitely changed and for my first experience it will definitely be the last."

"Slow service on a Wednesday afternoon with barely any customers. Went there for a quick bite and waited patiently for a while, but after 20-30 minutes I had to flag down the server to let her know we were ready to order, to which she responded “I’msorry give me a chance”. Waited another 10 minutes to have my order taken, and after all was said and done, it was 50 minutesuntil I got my food. Now... 50 minutes doesn’t seem too bad, but keep in mind that I didn’t order anything special. Iordered rice, beans, and chicken which is ready to be served in the front. Imagine how long it would’ve taken if I would’veordered something that needed to be prepared... that’s why you can’t wait 30-40 minutes to take someone’s order. Not onlythat, but food isn’t what it used to be. I was extremely disappointed. Chicken was super dry. Had to have a sip of water to beable to swallow the chicken. There beans used to be fire too; not anymore though. I’ve been here a couple of times before,but according to another review they have new owners. I won’t be coming here again."

"I quite enjoyed the food for a place we randomly walked into. But why $6.24 for a few pieces of lettuces and tomatoes? It was the size of a small side dish (wish I took a pic of it) that came with the chicken stew. At least bother to put a few avocados slices? Oh and note that 18% gratuity is automated included. All in all, solid homemade food but unhappy with how they charged. Not sure I’d return because of it."

"My mother and I visited the cafe with a relative and a friend. We ordered vegetarian meals, but unfortunately, the black beans were slightly burnt. I mentioned this to our server, who kindly removed the charge from our bill. Aside from that, we enjoyed our vegetarian dishes. Our companions ordered chicken meals, but one of them chose chicken tenders that were as tough as shoe soles—definitely not the tender experience one would expect! Additionally, my relative had soup that gave her indigestion because the potato or turnip inside wasn't cooked properly. She was also disappointed with her chicken dish. On a positive note, our server was very polite and attentive throughout our visit. I just wished all my guests had enjoyed their meals and had a better experience overall. Lastly, it would be great to have more vegetarian options beyond just white rice, black beans, and salad. Although the black beans were a bit burnt, they were still edible."

"We’ve ordered a few times online from here and it has not gone well. People are nice. The food is good but I told myself if this issue happens one more then then I will be writing a review. And here we are. This is the 3rd time we order online and when we come into pick it up they say sorry we didn’t receive your order? We have confirmation emails, get charged and everything and for some reason they never receive our order . We purposely waited over 45 minutes to pick up our food INCASE this happened again and it did. It’s a waste of our time. IF there seems to be a problem with your online ordering system, they should not be taking orders . Simple as that. The people in there like to say “oh sorry sometimes when we are busy we don’t see it” meanwhile the place is empty no customers and you wanna say we don’t see it? Then don’t send a confirmation email and text that order is ready for a scheduled time"

"So I would like to just share this story with the world so that maybe the good deed that the great people at Spanish Island did for me tonight won't go unnoticed and maybe it will cause them to have a few more customers than they normally would because it is rare to find the type of kindness or any type of kindness for that matter in business establishments these days when it comes to not having money. So basically I've been wanting to get myself some stewed beef white rice and some beans for quite some time now and I will be leaving the area for about 3 months at the end of the week so I made sure I made it over to Spanish Island to get myself what I want it now mind you it's a very rainy day today and I've been up all night packing so I'm just very tired and exhausted well I go into Spanish Island and I let them know that I wanted to pay with a prepaid Visa gift card that I received from doing an online survey I didn't have the physical card I only had the numbers expiration date CBV etc and they told me it wouldn't be a problem well I forgot and didn't realize that I spent some money off the Visa and didn't bring any other forms of payment with me and there wasn't enough money on the Visa after me trying to figure something out for tops maybe 2 minutes The kind amazing and huge hearted female that was working the cash registered told me not to worry about it gave me the food and handed me back the money that I gave her that I pulled from out of my pockets and bag which was about four bucks maybe a little less and she said don't worry about it well I promised her that tomorrow I would bring the money for the food and rest assured I will bring that money and some extra for her but this is something that I've ran into similar situations in the past and never as an establishment done that for me so I've always had a pleasant experience with these people their food is always great it's just all around a great place to go and get something good to eat and be around warm-hearted caring human beingsKid-friendliness: These people are kid friendly dog friendly cat friendly rock friendly car friendly these people are just friendly and great people go see for yourself . "The atmosphere was lovely, and the music added to the vibe, though it was a bit too loud for my liking. The drinks were both delicious and strong. I requested water but ended up waiting quite a while and had to remind the staff. The waitress was friendly, but they didn’t have what I ordered, and my friend finished her meal before I even received mine. I re-ordered but by then, I wasn’t really hungry anymore. They also forgot my friend’s vegetables. On the plus side, the food was very tasty. However, I was surprised to be charged $2 for sour cream. I had to speak with the manager about that. Overall, I was somewhat disappointed with the experience but I’m willing to give them another chance."
