"Sushiya in Del Mar Highlands is a great spot to enjoy some Japanese cuisine. It's conveniently located near my home, so I frequent it for dinner occasionally. The prices are fair, and they offer half off deals on certain rolls and hand rolls. The food is decent, although some of the rolls were a bit messy and not perfectly crafted... but they were still tasty. While Sushiya isn't very large, it does have a sushi bar and a few outdoor tables. It can get busy, so seating may be limited. The decor is simple, nothing extravagant. The staff and service were pleasant, and the food was served promptly. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant if you're in the mood for Japanese cuisine!"

"Convenient prices, good customer service, they do sell beer although they don’t have any American beer, they have a diverse variety of sushi rolls, the only thing that keeps them from having a 5 star rating is that they don’t really have parking roll, most of the time you have to drive around to find a parking space."

"I've been visiting this hibachi restaurant a few times a year for the past decade, but I've noticed a decline in its quality over time. While I still recommend it for the food, the atmosphere and environment have lost their previous charm. It was uncomfortably hot during my last visit, and box fans on the floor were struggling to circulate the air. Additionally, they've switched to using paper napkins, which were left scattered all over the floor. The prices listed on the menu no longer seem to reflect the actual charges. On a positive note, the service was good, and the chef always puts on an entertaining show. Overall, the restaurant seems to have shifted its focus to being more family-friendly, making it a better option for kids rather than a romantic or enjoyable evening out for adults or friends."

"I love Burmese food and was really happy to see there 's a place fairly close to us! We ordered takeout and the food was ready pretty quickly. There were a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu which is always appreciated. Portion sizes were great too!Tea leaf salad 1000/10I 'm a s for a good tea leaf salad and theirs does not disappoint at all. They gave me a choice of lettuce, cabbage, or a combination of the 2 and I went for the cabbage. I think that 's the right choice. Mint jalapeño chicken 8/10Great portion sizes and great flavor. Ordered it medium spicy and it wasn 't spicy in any way, shape, or form. Next time we 'll try hot or extreme hot and see how that is. Fiery tofu 7/10The tofu was cooked really well and the flavor was good, but it was maybe mildly spicy at best. The dish was advertised as being spicy and we ordered the extreme hot level to guarantee the heat, but it wasn 't really there. I readily admit my spice tolerance is higher than most, so maybe their spice ratings are calibrated differently than mine are.Cucumber minted lemonade 20/10My husband ordered this and I didn 't. Immediate regret. We probably could have drank a gallon of this. Super refreshing and not too sweet!Overall a really solid local spot for authentic Burmese cooking!"

"I really enjoyed the Korean sashimi bowl, especially with the traditional spicy chojang sauce. The portion was quite generous. The bulgogi bento was good, but if you’re expecting classic Korean bulgogi, this isn’t it; it tastes more like beef with broccoli. It’s tasty, just not the traditional style. The egg rolls were excellent, and the shrimp tempura, mandu, and California roll were all delicious too. The service was very friendly and courteous."

"this is an indoor dining area at the end of a strip-pasty. there are large windows that along the front of the restaurant for those who love their vitamin d.It is a smaller location with about 8 tables and the ambiente is quiet and quiet. I ordered the chu cheehuhn, which is fried, which chicken pieces with an orange flavored cocosnus sauce and jasminreis together with a miraculous/smoothing suppe. the supper broth was clean, clear and full of taste. the storms were delicious and did not come apart. the fried chicken was fried in a light teig and the chee sauce the rest with a balanced taste of the flavor would recommend and will definitely come back!"

"My husband and I decided to have an impromptu dinner at this restaurant, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience right from the beginning, thanks to Angel (they/them). Angel was incredibly engaging, fun, knowledgeable, and helpful, which really transformed what could have been a quick bite into a delightful outing. I was also excited to meet someone else who identifies as they/them in such a natural way. Angel noticed my they/them hat, and our conversation was truly uplifting in terms of gender identity. Although I'm open about being genderqueer, I often find myself getting misgendered, even when I try to make it clear."

"Service here is horrible. Spent 15 minutes waiting in the drive thru line with only 2 cars in front of me. Then another 15 to 20 minutes waiting in the parking lot for my food. All I ordered was 2 biscuits and gravy, 3 hashbrowns and a sandwich. They charged me for 3 hashbrowns but I only got one after waiting all that time. The employee's here don't seem to care about customer service, speed or accuracy. Been to this location multiple times in the past and service is always bad. Will never be coming back to this location."

"Tried this spot as we tried to find a new spot we both hadn’t been to. Nice location in La Jolla on the main drag. Took a minute to get a server but once did, service was pretty good. Knowledgeable and friendly. Food was good. I wouldn’t call it stellar but was good for the price. Was a cool waitress named Amy. Wasn’t ours but she was super cool. "We were waiting nearly 30 minutes for our food, they had us pull up so their numbers would look good. And then when they finally got our food out, it was a different cars food. We went inside and gave it back to get the right food, and they just sent the food back out to the correct car. For those who didn't know, this goes against food safety rules. It's unsanitary and you don't know what could have been done to the food in this time. You have to throw it away and remake it.On top of that, they acted like we didn't know what we ordered and were very rude. I get that it's fast food, and generally I don't care about bad service from fast food places. But the food safety violation was abysmal. What the hell? Yall need to retrain or something."

"This was my first time and it definitely will not be the last. Started out with the braised pork and chicken kara age. The braised pork was so tender and had a flavor that was amazing. The chicken kara age breading was crisp and had a really nicebalance of chicken to breading. Entree didnt get a picture cause it was just so darn good I didnt want to stop eating. The Rockand Roll chicken is a winner all day long! Our waiter was very attentive and reccommened quite a few items on the menu.Ambiance was very nice. The only thing that I would like is some traditional asian music playing or possibly some asian pop,some sort of music displaying the many different countries representing the food. They serveJapanese,Chinese,Vietnamese,Thai,and other asian cuisines. I will be back. Thank you for a great time."

"Been coming here since college back in the mid 2000s. Hasn’t changed a bit. Food is just as tasty as ever. Had the Suoerstar noodle salad and it hit the spot. Just the right amount of spice and texture. Service was quick and attentive, we were seated almost immediately even during the Saturday lunch rush. Lots of variety on the menu and it’s a great value. Parking is extremely difficult but that’s the city. Leave your car and take the bus. It was clean and there was lots of seating. Can’t wait to come back!"

"Very often when going out to a new place, I will leave myself notes on Yelp, so I can better remember my experience when the time comes to write about it. This is especially useful when I let long periods go in between the eating and the reviewing. Of course, here I am now, more than three years later since coming out to Sushiya, and all I have to go by are a few pictures and a lone note proclaiming, "not that great. "Not gonna lie, I have to stick by that. Valentine 's Day of 2020, leaving the kids at home, we snuck away for a chance to be alone with good food at a new spot nearby. There was a fair sized crowd that night and COVID hadn 't yet closed everything down. Settling in, we grabbed a small table near the front and ordered.We started with the Edamame, basic and not bad, though it would always be better with some garlic to kick things up a bit. Still, a nice beginning to the evening.Next up was the Popcorn Lobster Roll. Great on paper, gorgeously plated and fun to look at, but a bit underwhelming in flavor. It reminded me of two other dishes I 've had, also with lobster chunks, both also fried. Starting to think that lobster doesn 't ever work well in sushi.Then there was the Golden Tiger, the only thing I remember about this roll was that it put in mind that the only fried roll that should have cream cheese in it was a Jalapeño popper.Our last order was their Crunch Onion, similar to (but not even coming close) to the Hotty Hotty over at Blue Ocean. While ambitious in concept, it doesn 't have that same kind of salty crunch, or overall good mix of flavors that we were hoping was there.Also on the table we 're our regular selections of a California and Philadelphia Rolls. The latter was standard, but the former had a crab stick instead of a surimi salad which is ALWAYS a warning sign anytime we go out for sushi.In the end, after coming here, I had little interest in writing about it right away. There was no drive to come back out to try it again or see if we could find better fare on their menu. There are definitely better sushi places to go and enjoy better food. I very much doubt I will ever come back here again, which is sad; but with so many other choices nearby, it 's tough to justify giving this place a second look."
