"This was my first time visiting, so I need to give this another visit. We were sat in a small side room, at a folding card table. The room was comfortable, but halfway through our meal, one waitress went to the thermostat and CRANKED the heat at the request of one guest seated right inside the door. Other people were sitting comfortably, some even in short sleeves. It was certainly not chilly. But it quickly become unbearably warm. The crab cake appetizer was decent. I've had better quality crab, but this certainly wasn't bad. The scallop appetizer was severely undercooked. I am well aware that scallops should be rare/raw in the center. This was pretty much raw throughout to the point that it stretched in "strings" as I tried to cut it. My wife ordered a pork chop with an apple compote topping. I thought it was delicious, but the apple compote was ICE cold (not even room temp). Very strange on top of a perfectly cooked pork chop. I ordered a steak with potatoes and cipollini onions. I ordered it mainly because I LOVE cipollinis and don't see them often on a menu. I got a perfectly cooked steak with cocktail onions and baby potatoes. Neither my wife nor I received anything but a butter knife to cut the pork chop and the steak. (The steak was pre-sliced, but the slices were rather large Cutting meat with a butter knife on a folding card table made a mess of the drinks. The apple crisp was unique. I loved the spices, but my wife wasn't crazy about it. Either way, it was well made. The creme brûlée was tasty, but one side had a VERY thick layer of caramelized sugar that I couldn't crack with the spoon. The other side had no sugar at all. Lastly, the service was excellent. The waitress was perfect in every way. Attentive, asked before removing anything from the table, really timed her "visits" perfectly. I couldn't ask for anything better in service. All in all, I need to go back. Maybe the kitchen was off their game the night I went"

"6 of us had dinner last night in le french dnever. we ordered drinks 2 ordered the blueberry lavender margaritas and two of us ordered the ananas old fashion. the waiter convinced us two switches from the old fashion into a traditional manhattan with basil haydon bourbon. I ordered the french wobbles as an appetizer, which was delicious, and the mushes as entree. my mushes were only warm and most mushles were very small and cooked over. all the big mushes (5) did not open when they were cooked so they could not be eaten. the dinner of my wife, the scallops, were also warm. I told the waiter that the big mushes did not open, he said he would talk to the kitchen, but nothing was done. when we got the ****, my friend was and I shocked that they had charged us $21 for everyone. the drink specialities were only $14 that the waiter had convinced us to change from the manhattans. we checked the menu, including the drink card, and there was no price for manhattans. we wanted to talk to the manager he was over, but did nothing else than to say that their drinks are based on the trips in shanahans steak house. we googled shanahans menu and the price for a manhattan was just $14, so the manager was fos. I feel that we were deceived by the waiter to change a bait. we told the manager and the waiter that we would never put foot in this restaurant again. I would have deducted $15 from the waiter tip, the height I feel for the 2 manhattans overloaded, but the congratulation was automatically added to our bill due to the size of the party. is pre-warned. Make sure they know the price of the drink they order, especially if no price is listed on their drink menu."

"Dinner at Dowlings at the Carlyle while visiting friends in New York this fall. To say that I enjoyed it is a huge understatement. Every part of the dinner service was an unexpected delight that I’m still comparing past and present meals to. In short, whilst in New York… Dowlings is a non-negotiable. Host to Table Upon checking in, our party was greeted with smartly dressed host. Very pleasant, and welcoming as he confirmed our reservation and guided us down the stairs through the casual lounge/bar area. Passing through this initial space immediately fills you with delightful mixing sounds of crafted appertivos. As we continued to the main dining room, the restaurants energy was apparent all staff were friendly offering warms nods and hellos are exchanged with house staff and servers. Drinks, Dinner and Dessert Our party was well guided by an affable wine steward through the current list, library wines and choice cocktails. All servers and waiters were patient and attentive to everyone’s needs and requests. Service was prompt. BTW, the thoughtful serving/staff uniforms was just another reminder of the attention to detail here. Appetizers came out all at once… the Hudson Valley foie was the stellar standout and a must order. Primary meal was the ribeye… simple and delicious preparation. Order it and loved it!!! Dessert was a little of everything, including an outrageous and toothsome ice cream sundae that requires full table service, plus a traditional and memorable cheesecake with an elegant birthday note. Final Notes The food and drinks are exactly what you’d expect… customer service and attention to detail was polished as both the executive chef and director of restaurant operations visited our table during our meal… atmosphere and stunning art made the entire evening even more memorable. P.S. We finished the night at Bemelmans bar… drinks and live music took the night to a another level. Highly recommend… you won’t be disappointed."
