"Ok Im giving this spot 3 stars and I will explain why but keep it short and sweet. 1st the spot is right off 459 which was great but it REALLY IS OFF IN THE CUT. When I arrived the line was almost outside of the door which I got excited about because I knew the food had to be slapping good! I hate that there was no wifi offered it was hard to stand in that line for more than 20 minutes and not even be able to surf your phone to make the time go by. The restaurant and bar are very nice and will kept with a stage for a band and TVs all around, great atmosphere to dine in. By the time I got to the front I had a weee bit of an attitude because that line WAS NOT MOVINING. I ordered the oxtails and the baked chicken. The mac and cheese DID NOT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTOS FROM THE REVIEWS HERE as it looked like it had not been fully cooked. And the only green vegetables they had available was cabbages as the collard greens were out. When I asked how long it would be before they brought more out, the server said she didn't know (insert eye roll). I was like lady can you confirm??? Ive been in line for 25 minutes! I want what I came for!!!! By this time I was deflated and simply paid for my plates, the dessert looked yummy but I couldn't spend another dollar till I got my two sides of collards that I had to wait for. Well they came out pretty quickly so I was excited about that. Yall, when I got home and tasted that food........EVERYTHING was bussin!! EVEN the sloppy looking mac and cheese!! The cornbread is good and unlike any cornbread Ive tasted before. ONLY because the food was good I will come back and try this establishment out again......JUST NOT ON A SUNDAY! Food: 5 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4"

"I visited this restaurant today and I was sadly disappointed. These google review stars are really misleading. I tried it because it said 4.2 stars. It is not really good food or service. I understand it’s COVID time and restaurants are short staffed but hospitality can always be a priority. I wasn’t greeted and when I walked up I had to ask whether or not I was in right place to order. The young man said yes but just continued to work on orders and never greeted or said give me X amount of minutes. So after like 4 min, I asked I’m sorry was I suppose to order online/ he said no and to give him a minute. So I had to initiate customer service: he wasn’t rude but he was also not pleasant and seem a little irritated that I asked. Me and my niece ordered our foods. Which was expensive, her 5 wing combo with wings and fries were 19.99 but I’m thinking, it’s okay, I can pay for good food even-though my first interaction was not pleasant. We waited 30 or so minutes and the food was just not good! I was so disappointed/ I ordered wings with black eye peas and cabbage. I already mentioned my niece order: she tried a fry first and was like, “this is not good”. I tried and they just taste like grease. So I tried a piece of my Chicken. It completely tasted like a chicken wing thrown in grease, no seasoning, no salt, pepper/ the only flavor was grease. The black eye peas were okay, and the cabbage had a hint of burnt taste to them. The only thing that was good was the cornbread rolls! My niece has lemon pepper wings, she said they were just okay and the fries were nasty.. So l, I am forgiving of not the best customer service but the food is was just not good at all. Like I have never been to a soul food restaurant and the chicken is not good. I tasted a piece of my hive chicken because surely lemon pepper has seasoning, it was better but it wasn’t great. So, we ended up throwing our food away. Also, the tables in the dining room were nasty and sticky, We tried to different tables and they both were sticky and nasty.... The only reason I am not giving it one star was because I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that they are just not staffed and it was a bad cook on that day."

"Some of their food can be good at times. Love their Neckbones and rice! Their mac and cheese is absolutely lovely when it is fresh. Otherwise it is hard and not worth it. Overall 6/10.The customer service is not the best. I wouldn 't go there for that honestly. There exists friendlier reps at other restaurants. The thing is this, I wish they would be more transparent about the fees they will charge you. For example, there was a sign that was posted that they support (Oakland Community Kitchens I think it was called). I think it is an extremely noble thing to do, don 't get me wrong. However, I didn 't know until after I submitted payment and saw my itemized receipt, that I was charged addition 1% surcharge. It doesn 't seem like much, but 1% for that the restaurant surcharge fees increase in food is a lot. I 'd just like to know about it in advance and not after I 've submitted payment. Now, this 1% charge was not posted on their flyer when I read it on their door. The only place I truely read about it, is when I googled it online. Originally, I was under the impression that they participated this activity on the side, and they use our money (from the cost of the food), towards it.If I didn 't see my itemized bill, I wouldn 't have seen it at all. And that part feels suspect. And even on my bill, it was called, tax 1 and tax 2 or something like that. I can 't remember because it was a while ago, but no one knew what it was and I was brushed off until I asked for a manager. The manager said he refunds the charge if people make a fuss out of it . But I feel like that sneaky. I believe you shouldn 't charge it at all without people 's permission or knowledge to consent in the first place. In all, they should post it clear as day we charge an optional 1% or 2% on your bill in order to support Community Kitchens and explicitly ask us at the time of our ordering. All I 'm saying is check your bill at any restaurant. Don 't be afraid to ask questions about the price even if people brush you off. Just be kind <3The food is usually 6/10, because it is often cold as other reviewers mentioned. But when its done right, it can be 7/10. I may or may not come back because for the price, there are better restaurants in the bay like (rob bens the best customer service and the food is always on point! Or even everette jones. I even heard the vegan soul food restaurant is good but i havent tried it).Today, I feel like I have a hard time with trusting Lena 's after that lack of transparency on the bill. They probably don 't care about this review lol but yeah... thats all.Update (response to owner 's reply):My comment/review detailing my experience has little to do with my feelings.I provided factual information about what happened which can be actually traced back to the flyer on your window, and my receipt. It will make me feel much better, to hear from you exactly what actions you 'll take to ensure transparency in the costs, in the future. (That wasn 't addressed in your reply, so I 'm still not understanding what will actually change since posting this review). As mentioned in my earlier post, upfront transparency will be the deciding factor in retaining me as a customer. If you automatically charge an *optional* fee, to the customer 's final bill, its unethical to not tell them about it. It should be very very clear so that we can know and decide if we want to participate. My point is that it wasn 't for me (and perhaps other people too), because it was labeled on the itemized receipt as tax1 and tax 2 .Can you address this? Why wasn 't it explicitly stated on any of your flyers or in the restaurant that we would be automatically charged an optional fee that we could opt out of?I look forward to seeing positive changes.Thank you."
