"I dined here for my first experience and it was a nice cozy spot on Pershing. Been living in the area for years but never decided to dine here until recently. The reception by I believe the owner was very hospitable. She was welcoming, made sure my guest and I were happy with our seating and her follow- up was great. This spot is small but packs a big punch! I ordered the j shrimp and grits which were absolutely AMAZING! My friend had the french toast flight and it was to die for! While dining the very front seating was not so great because of the constant opening and closing of the front door which will produce cold food quicker. While waiting very timely for our food, I did notice other diners with lovely looking cocktails and the food they had was visually asthetically beautiful. I also saw what appeared to be a sort of flight cocktail spread that had several drinks all housed on one wooden plank for one person and it looked fantastic. I 've heard reviews from others who had dined prior and the take on that was 50/50 but you definitely should dine yourself to be the judge. The presentation of each meal was great and I was definitely pleasingly satisfied and most definitely will be back. The only thing I did see was that the wait staff does not wear any hairnet or caps and should as they do handle food drinks. Overall this is a fabulous nice option for the Bronzeville community and I am hopeful that it will expand with seating and has longevity!"

"I was there a few weeks ago so please excuse my delayed criticism. The food was edible, and the wine was average, so it wasn't terrible. I'm used to mediocrity; I live it every day. However, the service was a tad sus. The waitstaff seemed a bit overbearing and would be checking up on us what seemed like every five minutes and it was a little frustrating. It almost seemed like they were in a hurry for us to leave, which was interesting because it wasn't very busy then.Anyway, it's not super important because the terrible lady I brought is no longer speaking with me. She's probably off doing some sorcery like drinking moon water and staying in oddly themed motels. On a side topic, I think your establishment is haunted because the lights kept flickering, which leads me to believe that I was cursed with some bad juju, that's why my lady friend is no longer interested, as it surely couldn't be the result of my charming personality. Surely...I took her to the lake for a picnic the last time I saw her. We sat by the water when these weird otherworldly entities that were gigantic in stature rose up out of the lake. They were winged creatures with humanoid bodies and tentacled faces. I saw some like them before in a small seaside town called Innsmouth. They picked her up and dragged her into the void, and I haven't heard from her since. Rachel, if you see this I'm sorry that the evil cthulhuian-like beings that started following us since dining at this particular restaurant kidnapped you. Most of this review is sarcasm, but you wasted some of my time with your questionable service so I thought I'd return the favor. Thanks! Also, if you decide to dine here, the chicken marsala is actually pretty good. I was a tad too critical with my review of the food."

"I don't understand this place. I don't understand the great reviews. No one in our household can imagine returning for any reason. This restaurant is like an alternate reality that has nothing in common with our real world. First of all I must mention that the service was fine. Our server was terrific and provided a perfect level of service that I haven't witnessed in a while during the 2021 times of under staffing. The menu was large and impressive. I had a difficult time choosing between multiple great contenders for my entree. But that's where the joy stopped. We asked for old fashioned cocktails. We left the choice of bourbon up to their bartender. Apparently no bourbon was used because some kind of peppermint liquor was substituted. It was gross and did not constitute an old fashioned. Our two appetizers arrived for our family of four. The portions were minuscule. The size was laughable. The ten or so garlic knots were each less than the size of a quarter, some a penny. The fried ravioli arrived and there were three little fried raviolis. Are we trapped in some elf village where everything is tiny sized? This theme continued on to our entrees. The manicotti and the gyro platter were small and did not contain any side other than the simple cheap salad that preceded them. Our kids meals were even more laughable. They came with nothing else, no side, no salad, no bread, nothing other than the main item. Your kid will receive chicken nuggets and only chicken nuggets. Cheese sticks as an entree and only cheese sticks. How strange. We paid $70 for two tiny adult entrees, two tiny kid meals, two tiny appetizers, and two cocktails. If they want to have European sized portions I'm ok with it, if they would give notice. However we paid American portion prices for European sized portions of food. I can't fathom ever returning. It's a one and done."

"When we went to order wine, we found out that the selections from Balducci's were unavailable, and we were left with a very limited list that didn’t include anything from their Missouri Winery. Disappointment set in, but it wasn’t a huge deal. I chose a glass of red wine, which was the only option. We also shared a house salad, which was decent. The croutons tasted like they came from a bag, resembling those you can find at the grocery store, and they were slightly stale. However, I didn’t mind too much since the dressing was good, and I was quite hungry. We were keeping a positive attitude, hoping to enjoy our meal. Just as we finished the salad, our entrees arrived. I had the manicotti while my date opted for pasta with broccoli and chicken. After a few bites, I regrettably realized the food was not up to par. The noodles had an off taste, almost as if they had been boiled in rusty water, and the sauce lacked any flavor, seeming like it was poured directly from a can without any heating, as my pasta was barely warm. We tried to stay optimistic about our dinner, but just then, an uninvited guest appeared at our table—an insect, possibly a water bug or a roach, joined us unceremoniously. Our party of two became a party of three! At that moment, I completely lost my appetite. Our server quickly intervened, dispatching the bug and offering to move us to another table. While we appreciated the offer, it felt uncomfortable after watching her deal with the insect right above our food. We decided it was best to leave for the night, especially since we were uncertain about whether there were more critters lurking around. The restaurant graciously comped our meal, and we tipped our server well, as she was not responsible for our unfortunate experience. It’s clear this place has great potential and might have been wonderful at one time. However, it’s likely due for some plumbing checks, a switch to filtered water for cooking, and some thorough cleaning, especially given its basement location. I don’t plan on returning."
