"We were staying at the Holiday Inn nearby. My wife ordered Thai food from a restaurant on the same street and had me walk down the hill to pick it up for her. I wasn't in the mood for Thai and decided to pick something up from Bamboo. I was glad I did. I walked in and looked at their lunch menu. I ordered a combination lunch special... Kung Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken, and white rice. I could have had chow mein or fried rice instead of white rice. Based on how great the food tasted, I regret not getting it with chow mein, . The lunch special even came with and egg roll and soup (egg drop soup or hot sour soup). Unlike back home, they even gave the soup when getting take out. This was a nice surprise. I chose the hot sour soup. I had no complaints about any of my choices. All were delicious. The Kung Pao looked a little different than I am used to, it was tender sliced chicken and I am used to chucks or cubes of chicken. It had a very good sauce and I like it a lot. The Orange chicken was wonderful. It also looks a bit different than I am used to as the sauce was a little dark and it had thin slices of orange peel nested in the sauce. None the less, it was great., maybe the best I ever had. The egg roll was still crisp when I got it back to the room. And the soup was pretty good. A nice touch was a big wedge of orange in the container. They gave me two fortune cookies and two sets of plastic wear. An added bonus, I was served tea while waiting for my order. The place is small and not a fancy place, but the tea gave this place a touch of class. The price was very reasonable too. In short... I was very happy I went to Bamboo. If I had another day in San Francisco, I would have probably gotten food from here again. But would have tried the chow mein with the lunch special. The walk back up the hill was the only thing I didn't enjoy about this excursion. I am old, out of shape, and not built for hills."

"My experiences at this restaurant have always been positive. I appreciate their Americanized take on Japanese and Chinese cuisine, and I find their prices to be quite reasonable compared to many other places. I recently tried the spicy ramen through a buy-one-get-one-free deal on Uber Eats, costing just $17 for two generous bowls. I consider this a win in my quest for good food. The broth has a spicy miso base that I enjoy, and it’s flavorful, but the standout element is definitely the chashu (BBQ pork) — thick, large, and juicy with the perfect balance of fat and lean meat, making it feel like a good value for the money. The toppings include sweet corn, black fungus, fish cake, pickled radish, spicy minced pork and tofu, green onions, and my favorite ramen topping: bamboo shoots. I asked for extra, and they happily obliged. While this ramen is not a must-visit destination, it’s a solid choice when you’re craving hearty ramen with a variety of toppings. The salt and pepper pork chops are one of my favorite dishes at American Chinese restaurants, and theirs ranks among the best. They’re very garlicky, which I appreciate, and the addition of onions and jalapeños enhances the flavor of the tender, juicy fried pork chops. I would definitely order these again next time. As for the fried California rolls, they’re fine — nothing exceptional, but certainly not bad. We also got them as part of the buy-one-get-one-free deal, totaling $10 for two, so I’d say they’re worth the price. However, don’t expect anything too special. The garlic noodles with chicken were somewhat disappointing. The chicken was slightly smoky and tender, but it was only seasoned with salt. The noodles lacked garlicky flavor, and while there was some cheese on top, it was nearly flavorless, resulting in an overall bland dish. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you prefer very plain food. Despite a few misses, I would certainly continue to order from them, especially when they have deals available."
