"Ordered a mix of sushi and sashimi for curbside/takeout. Was not good had a fishy taste, not fresh tasting. Only ate 1 piece of roll and 1 piece of the tuna sashimi had to throw it out because it tastes so bad : Baffled by all the great reviews for this place maybe i caught them on a bad night or something. Anyway thought I’d let people know to hopefully save you."

Pleasantly surprised at how good their food is, given the modest look from the outside.

Came for lunch this time, have been here several times in the past and it's always been good and fresh. This time the sushi was a bit drier and now as fresh as I remember it. View menu

We're back!!!! Someone wanted sushi and miso soup after her coding class so here we are. Great food, great service every time... we made it to happy hour! Beautiful smooth jazz playing in the background gave Kyoto and relaxing and inviting setting this time around.

The sushi here was a bit underwhelming. I'm used to getting larger rolls and more for the price. I'd ordered a flamingo roll and a salmon nigiri roll. No miso soup came with the order, had to be ordered separately. Service was nice and the place is nicely setup. Overall it was about $30 without tip.

We ordered $16 sushi rolls and they turned out to be very small and did not resemble the pictures. The sushi portions were downsized and felt like a rip off. Additionally, the menu looked unprofessional with prices tapped on. There are much better sushi restaurants in the area, so I would recommend skipping this one. View menu

Very unhygienic scary esp for sushi place (saw 2 small roaches!???????? Suggest trying May Island which is clean better ambiance! EDIT TO ADD: If the owner can 't accept the truth and realities of being in a public space with online reviews, too bad. Everyone consider what I said and do go to MAY ISLAND, which is just several blocks from here! :

I work across the street from Kyoto and will drop in from time to time for their lunch combination. The sushi is fresh and well priced and the service is wonderful. I've never been at a time when it's crowded and have always had plenty of seats from which to choose. If you're looking for good sushi in a low-key spot, I highly recommend this spot.

"This place really helped me adjust. I later learned that people gravitate towards certain bars, and I found my favorites, especially those with live music like Birchmere, Black Cat, 9:30 Club, Lincoln, Capital One Arena, and even the now-closed O'Shaughnessy's and Rock & Roll Hotel. One of my most memorable experiences was running into Rory Sheridan on one of my first visits. He was launching his DC music campaign back then and was part of Loud Boyz. We chatted a few times, and I even caught up with some old classmates. Another highlight was when I heard about a “reunion” night before Thanksgiving, and I decided to crash it. There were moments where people could be unkind or I felt out of place, but I was given some guidance on where I would fit in better, without the unnecessary drama. Being in Old Town, I was familiar with nearby schools like West Potomac, Mount Vernon, and Bishop Ireton. During my visits, I would often take an Alexandria cab or use Metro Access, being discreet about my disability since I felt embarrassed at times. Being a regular meant navigating the tourist scene, and there were people who seemed territorial about the place, but I ended up doing quite well when I sold my house. Good times continued with events like watching RG3 play for the Redskins or meetups organized by JT. I enjoyed New Year’s celebrations and weekend outings. I also frequented other establishments like Flying Fish before it closed, and O'Shaughnessy's before I decided to stop drinking. This is a sports bar located near a bicycle shop, close to the Ben & Jerry's I used to work at, along with many other walkable bars for bar hopping, like Union Street Pub and Fish Market. It can be a great place to have fun, but with the good comes some downsides. Overall, I felt well-hosted and respected here, despite some things I was not initially aware of or didn’t want to uncover."
