SHELTER PIZZA

80 North 7th Street, Brooklyn, United States

Pizza • Salad • Casual • Truffle Pizza

"Arrived at 8PM. Ordered immediately and order easy things (One pizza, one burger, and four empanadas) because we were starving and had young kids with us. Got our drinks rather quickly, but they forgot my husband‘s beer. The beer arrived 15 minutes later and it was warm. Around 8:30 PM another waiter, who was not our original waiter, came by all of the tables and was explaining that the kitchen was very behind and that our food would be out next. I asked him if we could get the check, because we didn’t want to miss the fireworks. He brought the check immediately and I paid. Getting the check and paying the check was by far the fastest service we received. By 9 PM, we still had not received our food. When I went to inquire, because nobody had checked on us since 8:30, The only person I found was the hostess. I asked her if it was possible to check on the status of our food, since 75% of the tables were now empty. She replied, “I don’t know what you want me to do, I’m just the hostess. You’ll have to find a server.” We waited 20 more minutes and not ONE shelter pizza staff member was around. Finally, around 9:25 PM, a kitchen staff member brought out the food. He was apologetic, which was appreciated; however, because it was so late, we had to scarf it down. The food is a blur. Couldn’t even tell you how it tasted. My husband‘s empanadas were rockhard. Again, I never saw the server. We just got up and left. My kids missed the fireworks (which was literally the only reason we drove into Brooklyn) and we drove the hour home hungry and frustrated. My brother lives in Brooklyn and we have close friends that live three blocks from shelter pizza. Unfortunately, this is not a place I would recommend to either of them or would visit again when we are in the area."
