"Excellent service, delicious food, and an impressive beer selection! The staff at the bar are incredible; they make you feel right at home, even though it was my first time visiting. This truly feels like an authentic German establishment; each beer is served in its own special glass (THANK YOU!). The schnitzel is fantastic, and just being here lifts your spirits! I’ll definitely be back, likely every weekend!"

"Absolutely love this place. Been coming for years. And it seems like it's getting better every time. An actual restaurant that cares about improving and it's experience and not resting on his Laurels but rather building upon them to create a much more spectacular German American Experience. The owner and his family is super friendly as well as the Fantastic staff that never ceases entertain. The food and beer selection is inspired. If Only They would do a pan fried schnitzel. That would make my day. Get the pork shank. Go on Mondays and get it for half off. Fantastic deal. Feeds to easily unless you're a glutton Like myself LOL. Just recently tried there Sunday brunch. Bottomless mimosas for $12 Is hard to beat. Food was really good too just a little bit small and portions."

"I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant, which boasts an impressive selection of German beers. The choices are plentiful, and our server was incredibly knowledgeable. The bartender at the high tables was very attentive, and Carly helped us select the perfect beers to match our taste preferences. The German ambiance is warm and welcoming, and all the food was delicious. I discovered this gem through Visit Philly's list of "11 Pretzels You Have to Try." The happy hour deals are quite reasonable, but be sure to grab a seat at the bar or at the high tables to enjoy the happy hour menu."

"We'd been wanting to go for a while so were very excited to finally go. It was a great experience, but with the price tag I feel like it won't become a regular go-to.We got the schnitzel and dumplings. The schnitzel was very tasty, super thin so it looked massive. It was still two meals-worth, just very wide on a plate given how thin it was. The breading was great, nice and thin too. But ultimately it's schnitzel which isn't meant to be some super expensive item. The dumplings were good, and I'm glad we got something a bit less standard as well, which is what Funkenhausen is meant to be known for. I wasn't like blown away but they were good and a bit of a twist which I liked. My cocktail was good not great, though I can't remember which cocktail it was. My wife liked her cocktail more. For sides we got brussels sprouts and fries. The fries were incredible. Well cooked, delicious, incredible sauce. The brussels sprouts were the opposite, devoid of any sauce, surprisingly bland."

"I recently had the most fantastic German food at this restaurant. I spent 4 years stationed in Germany, so I have high standards when it comes to German cuisine. The Pork Shank was cooked perfectly, and the sauerkraut, red cabbage, and mashed potatoes elevated the meal to legendary status. The meal was complemented by some amazing Hefeweizen beer. The service was also exceptional, fast and friendly. I even received a complimentary beer due to a misorder. This will definitely be a must-stop for me whenever I'm in this city."

"Very nice German establishment with classic dishes and a simple but exciting menu. There are several vegan and vegetarian options; the eggplant schnitzel with vegan mushroom gravy was delicious as were the sides: braised red cabbage and potato cakes. We started with a pretzel that was excellent, very much a stand out as it was buttery, warm, and had a perfect golden crust. The drinks are equally delicious whether you opt for alcohol or without. This visit I got the Pear Zero, and it was very tasty; last visit I had it s alcoholic counterpart that was equally good. Parking was easy, the staff was welcoming and attentive, and everyone in our group enjoyed their experience. Vegetarian options: Options are clearly labeled and there are many different choices, about 20-25% of the menu."

"The homemade food is exceptional! The stuffed cabbage was absolutely delicious. Eating the mushroom barley soup made me feel like my Polish aunt was in the kitchen, secretly preparing her best recipes. They offer dried mushrooms at reasonable prices, as well as plum butter. This place is a true treasure of Eastern European cuisine tucked away in a corner of Queens. Food TikTokers should definitely come here to appreciate the authentic experience!"

"We usually enjoy German cuisine, which is a rarity in Manhattan. My husband and I tried the hunter carving and the sausage combo, and both were excellent. Many other patrons opted for pasta and pizza from the Italian section of the menu. The meat portions are quite generous; we brought home leftovers for another meal the next day. Next time, I plan to focus on the cucumber salad, red cabbage, and potato salad. I also enjoyed a wonderful bottle of Czech pilsner. The service was good at this casual spot."

"This is quite a nice spot near Barclays. I gave it a few less stars because the schnitzel is made with pork instead of the veal you might expect, but it was still quite good. Unfortunately, the server lacked personality, which was disappointing. The restaurant has a bar-like atmosphere, complete with a beer garden. Definitely try the pretzel; it's delicious and pairs perfectly with a German beer. The stuffed mushrooms were tasty, as were the various German sausages. Overall, Black Forest is a solid choice due to its location and if you know what to expect."

"This place needs Robert Irvine! While our server was very pleasant and attentive, the overall experience was terrible, especially the food. The atmosphere is a cheesy imitation of a German beer hall, just as noisy with none of the charm. The seating is all hard benches less comfortable than McDonalds, and the temperature was absolutely freezing. My mother and I kept our jackets on the entire meal. The food was absolutely atrocious. To start with, don’t bother to look at the online menu expecting to see the same menu in the restaurant: no Wienerschnitzel or sauerbraten, and the fish fry is only available Friday with no perch. We weren’t expecting Karl Rasch’s, but beef rouladen made with hamburger? The walleye fish fry was overcooked and dry. The schnitzels undoubtedly came from Sysco and were utterly flavorless. The potato pancakes had a strange flavor and the texture of an old tire. Even the sauerkraut was inedible. Milwaukee used to be known for the best German cuisine on this side of the Atlantic. The Bavarian Bierhaus is an absolute embarrassment to that heritage."

"I love this place! Went for brunch and really enjoyed the unique mix of choices from different central and eastern european countries. The salmon in the cured salmon blintz appetizer was super high quality. This place has everything I want in a brunch. I'll be back soon"

"One of the last handful of the original restaurants of Southampton's still thriving and operating in this town! And so happy it is! No clue what these negative nelly reviewers have to complain about. The food is solid and stick to your ribs good, the portions to price ratio is also very balanced plus the waitresses have been there 30-40 years and know their loyal based customer's usual orders over the phone just by hearing their voice. There are old pictures of what therestaurant looked like back in the early days and other fine memorabilia on the walls too. Menu is part German and part Americana but I'm not mad at that at all. Ordered the escargot stuffed into white mushroom caps with delicious generousdollops of toasted minced garlic and butter. The Bavarian combo platter was not too salty at the least bit, the wienerschnitzel a la Holstein came perfectly topped with a fried egg, lovely plump pan seared filets of anchovies and freshcapers. The mashed potatoes was super buttery, the creamed spinach was divine and the saukraut had just the right amount of vinegar fermented kick to keep you coming back for another bite. Loved their lentil and bean soup of the day and I'musually not a fan of blue cheese dressing at a restaurant but this one was worth licking the plate clean for. Wish I had more space for dessert but that just means we come back for about visit very soon!"

"My experience at Max's left a lot to be desired.I was disappointed that they didn't have certain items shown on the menu. I.E. Potato Pancakes, Mushroom sauce for my Viener Schnitzel (which I had to eat dry). I asked them for a sharper knife to cut the very dry and tough veal, and the waiter said that they didn't have one. What? After I finished my meal, the waiter said I could have the pancakes in about ten minutes. I said OK, I would like to try them. They were terribIe--overcooked, dry and tasteless. I would not go back there again!"

"The bar service and atmosphere at this restaurant are excellent! The bartender, "Q," serves up a great cold draft beer and is great to chat with. The only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is because the menu is still limited and quirky. I've been coming here since they opened and I think they should change up their menu to earn an easy 4.883 stars. But besides that, sitting at the bar and enjoying some excellent beer choices is a great experience! I recommend trying the Sausage Platter, Beef on Weck, Kielbasa, and Deviled Eggs. The service is top-notch, with a rating of 5, and the atmosphere is also a 5. This is a great spot for a dinner meal, with prices ranging from $50-100 per person."

"As we drove across the states, my husband wasn’t excited until we landed in the parking lot of this restaurant. He giggled with excitement and said this is our anniversary lunch. We where celebrating our 3 year anniversary. Well let’s go on an adventure. When we walked in you can smell something delicious. We get situated quickly. Staff is quick and offer a menu of lots of options. I can say I was overwhelmed with how many but made by selections. My husband I agree that family style is the way to go. Just in case there is something the other likes. I am glad to say, I enjoyed it and can’t wait to go back. They also have a deli and they tell us that they can ship to us. It just made my husband put together his list. There mustard is at the top of the list."
