"We’re very familiar with chef table style restaurants and to be honest, our experience was pretty disappointing. We were back in NH for a short time from Maui to visit family. We gave up time with them to sneak up solely to try this eatery. Maybe we caught chef at an off night but it would be fair to say, we wouldn’t go back or recommend it to anyone. The 3 stars is for ambiance, gluten free options, and wine selection. The food was sub-par. We got there later in the evening and the waitress took our order, she never informed us that the main dishes we had wanted were sold out (duck and scallops) until 15 minutes after ordering. We ordered our steak rare and it was delivered medium-well. We’re big fans of frais gras and that was also over cooked. I listened to the table next to us to hear if it was just our personal experience and they were brought the wrong first selection all together. We chose to have the wine pairings for the courses. There was no glass of wine while you wait for your first course, when our main course came, our wine glasses were empty, the waiter left and came back to check on the food but never offered to provide the wine pairing, I had to ask. There was also no wine pairing with dessert. In a wine cellar, there should be glasses of wine at every point, ESPECIALLY if you have guests willing to pay for each pairing offered! It may be true that this is rated a top spot in the White Mountains but overall, I’d rate is one of the lowest chef table experiences I’ve ever had."

The 4-course dinner was the best I have ever had, with excellent service and a fantastic selection of wines to choose from that won't disappoint.

I have been to this restaurant for birthday dinners two years in a row. Each time, I have had great meals. They have an excellent wine selection, well-prepared red dishes, and a nice ambiance. I would and have definitely come back.

The restaurant is good, but not great. Unfortunately, many dishes arrived cold (such as the pork belly in the amuse-bouche, scallop, duck breast, arctic char, and creme brulee) or overcooked (duck breast and arctic char). If these issues were fixed, the $70 prix fixe menu would be a solid value due to the quality of the ingredients and preparation.

My husband and I dined at this restaurant last night and we were very impressed with the food and service. We each ordered three courses and found that the portion sizes were more than generous. The steak was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. My husband enjoyed the fish dish he ordered as well. The restaurant offers a wide selection of wines at various price points, making it accessible to all. Voir le carte

The restaurant was good overall, but fell short of greatness due to a number of dishes arriving cold (pork belly in the amuse-bouche, scallop, duck breast, arctic char, creme brulee) and some being overcooked (duck breast and arctic char). If these issues were addressed, the $70 prix fixe menu would provide good value considering the quality ingredients and other well-executed aspects of the meal.

CONS The table was too wide to hold hands, the candles were not lit, there were no flowers present, the napkin folding needed work, and chairs should have been pulled out for guests with napkins placed across their laps. There was another female server with short hair who was interruptive and rude, grabbing wine right over our table without so much as an excuse me and treating other servers with disdain. The quantity of the bread/butter, cheese plate, and dessert was too small for the price. The main courses were bland. The bathrooms were on the opposite side of the resort. The restaurant was a bit cold to wear a dress, and the dress code was not enforced.

We were very disappointed with the food at this restaurant. The ambiance and wine selection were great, and the waitstaff was friendly. However, the quality of the food went downhill after the first small plate course. Two out of three main entrées were undercooked, with the ribeye coming out rare instead of medium. The lamb pieces were mostly fat, with only a small portion being edible. Despite having been there for over an hour and a half, we did not want to wait for the food to be fixed. The table next to us experienced the same problems with their meals, but after sending them back to be cooked more thoroughly and replacing the lamb, their meal improved. The staff did not seem apologetic... Voir le carte

The setting is beautiful and the service was very good. However, I expected small portions but was still surprised at how very small they were. The dessert, albeit tiny, was delicious. The first two courses we had were decent but no better than what I typically cook at home, although I am an avid home cook. The introductory bread didn't seem fresh at all as it was chewy and tough. The worst part was the ribeye I ordered. It was not a ribeye. It was tasteless and had no fat whatsoever. It was an eye of round or some other lean and tough cut. This should be a crime in my book. I spent $196 with no alcohol. For this price, it should be an entirely wonderful experience. We laughed about it, retu...

We have stayed at the Mountain View Grand a number of times and love the resort. This stay, we were without the kids and decided to try the 1865 Wine Cellar. It was a mixed bag. Ambiance was great. Intimate tables set in a cozy wine cellar. Great lighting and as much wine as you could ask for. Server was nice. First complementary tasting dish, a small cheese filled cherry tomato with herbs, was amazing. Bread was okay. First appetizer, I got the scallop, it was great. My wife got the a broccoli dish and it was some shavings of broccoli (almost nothing) and cheese. As we were laughing about the broccoli shavings, the server asked my wife if she wanted more bread the offer was well timed! Seco...

"This review is a contradiction to itself... The service was great and incredibly slow. Some of the food was excellent and some just barely mediocre. We had a reservation at 5:45 they told us they couldn 't seat us at 5:15 or 5:30 even though more than 1/2 of the dining room was empty when we got there. Sure sign that they are short on staff but it must be in the kitchen because there were definitely enough waitstaff around. And although there were waitstaff around we barely saw our very friendly waitress. The owner was around and was very nice and accommodating with the kids and offered to make anything they wanted. I had the prime rib which was cooked to a perfect medium rare and tender but it had no flavor at all. The sweet carrots were the star of the plate. My husband had the rib eye and said it was just OK but again no flavor. My daughter had the bacon burger but it was a hockey puck and all she ate was the mashed potato side. My son had grilled chicken and their famous fries (as the owner said) the fries were the pre battered kind and nothing fancy and the chicken was just that a slab of grilled chicken breast. The fried green beans were good and the pretzels were perfect although the cheese sauce with them had no flavor. We took desserts to go and I am not sure why they called it bread pudding but it was just a hunk of hard bread. We like to support local but not sure we will make an effort to come back here."

"I recently stayed for a week at the Mountain View Grand Resort in New Hampshire, and it was an unforgettable experience.Pros:The views from both our room and the property in general were truly unmatched. Being nestled in the heart of the mountains provided a breathtaking backdrop throughout our stay. The llama experience was an absolute must-do; walking alongside these gentle creatures and enjoying breakfast afterward was a unique adventure. Axe throwing and visiting the farm with a variety of animals were also standout activities that added to the charm of the resort. The property itself was impeccably clean and accentuated its natural beauty. The Wine Cellar Restaurant was truly beautiful and a wonderful experience. We tried the bar, and the second restaurant, as well as room service and all was stellar!Cons:While the overall experience was nice there were a few areas that left something to be desired. The front desk service, in particular, was lacking. It felt as though we had to initiate every request, which, considering the substantial cost of our stay (few thousand) was somewhat disappointing. The rest of the staff (housekeeping, activities coordinator, bar and restaurant, and the porch employees were amazing, no complaints there) but the front desk staff truly need some hospitality training. When checking in they didn't offer a map of the premises (and it's a huge property) or schedule of the activities- I had to prompt them to give it to us and I had to ask for every add-on activity (times, price) because I researched them online, not because they offered. Had I not seen the llama experience or axe throwing we wouldn't have done it because we wouldn't have known. And truly all they had to do was provide us a paper they print with the daily activities (which they did once I asked). We were also not told about the spa or all its services (which we would've done) until the last day when it was too late. Additionally, the limited scheduling of certain activities was a bit restrictive. Axe throwing being available only once a day at 10 am and s'mores offered only three times a week, rather than nightly, made it challenging to fully enjoy these amenities. In conclusion, the Mountain View Grand Resort offers a stunning setting and spacious rooms with incredible views. However, there is room for improvement when it comes to the level of service and the availability of some activities. Despite these minor drawbacks, our overall experience was memorable, but unless they change their staff training we'd consider spending those 3 thousand dollars at the Mount Washington Resort down the road. The Mountain View Resort is a historic and beautiful property and their front desk staff should treat it as such and make guests feel valued and welcome, as well as enticed to take advantage of every amenity it has to offer."
