"Lunch at the Main St Diner recently. Waited at least 45 minutes for our food…usually they are quite fast. Server forgot drinks. My lunch mate went into the restaurant 3 times to check why it was taking so long and each time was told “it’ll be out soon”. When the food finally arrived, I asked our server if our order had been lost and only then did we learn that “the ticket was misplaced “. The table next to us was seated about 20 minutes after we ordered and received their food before we did. I suspect that’s when our server finally checked on our order. After my friend had asked 3 times about our order. Hmmm. They were not busy…1 table of diners inside and 2 tables of diners outside, including us. Two servers and 1 hostess. Our server did discount our bill to the amount of about 1/2 off one meal. We were considering asking for one comped meal but okay. Additionally, as we seated ourselves after checking for a table with the hostess, I was adjusting the umbrella to maximize shade. This umbrella operates differently than the one I own so I was struggling a bit trying to figure it out and didn’t see the button on the opposite side. The hostess came out with menus, saw me trying to adjust the umbrella and said “Pump the brakes! There’s a button here!” Pump the brakes?? Really? Sounded rude to me. Could be she was tired but that’s no reason to be grumpy to a guest. Next time I have visiting guests, I’ll think twice about bringing them to the Main St Diner."

"While passing through Billings, I googled coffee shops. A couple came up with 4.8 stars, even a 4.9, but when we saw the number of reviews, Black Dog Coffee House won. Upon entering, you see everything you expect to see in a coffee shop. The woman taking our order was professional and friendly. Now I’m not going to say that paying almost $30 for two drinks and two chocolate croissants wasn’t a bit of sticker shock? But the moment we took the first sip? In the top three coffee shops in the 17 states that we’ve been in since mid-May, without a doubt. The coffee to breve ratio was outstanding, the coffee flavor impeccable. And then we tasted the chocolate croissant. They would have been worth it had our final bill been $50. I have to stop and give context. I’ve lived in France and traveled in Europe extensively (as a student, on a student’s budget, lest I sound too “doo-wah” . As a vegetarian, the cuisine wasn’t my thing. The bread, on the other hand? Absolutely my thing. And in Europe, bread is amazing. It’s like without even trying, they made it perfect. And doesn’t matter what it is, croissants, baguettes, pretzels. You name it they outdo us. The chocolate croissants (and I assume all the pastries are made in-house. When I spoke with the baker who creates these masterpieces, I expected an accent…French, undoubtedly. Nope! American as they come! But gifted beyond all but a few! If you’re within 100 miles, you should go out of your way to visit Black Dog Coffee. But seriously. There should be some way to give them more than 5 stars, much like students who achieve a 4.37 GPA? That’s Black Dog Coffee House."
