"40.72964 -73.98785 Among a ton of Japanese restaurants in East Village, Soba-ya looks like and really is an ordate Japanese buckwheat soba udon restaurant, exempt not sitting on the floor, tatami mats and leaving your shoes at the door. No other competing Asian cuisines on the menu. Co-owner and mini-mogul, Bon Yagi, prefers authenticity to flash in his restaurants. No QR-codes in this Michelin Bibi Gourmand restaurant. With loud Americans inside, soundproofing is lacking. As appetiser, we ordered in June 2023 Dashimaki Tamago Japanese-style egg omelette, made by rolling thin layer upon thin layer of egg) and miso soup $5). The soup arrived, but not the egg omelette, before our Yasal udon soup with mixed vegetables and mushrooms $22) arrived. Lost in translation? The thick udon broth was hearty and flavourful. Well prepared and enjoyable. Soba-ya serves very good udon, but the service could be better. Recommended."

Food was decent overall. I liked the tempura but was not impressed by the zaru.

I ordered the lunch set and it was really tasty! The noodles and broth were seasoned perfectly.

Just come here and try it for yourself. It’s too authentically good to describe even the bathroom is legit with its Toto

We made a reservation for a party of 5 at Soba-ya for dinner at 18:00, and they were prompt and friendly when we called. We arrived at 17:30. Visualizza piatti

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant for a while, and I finally did. The food was even better than I had expected, and I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience.

This was our first time dining at this restaurant, and I tried their lunch special which included a mini sake oyako don (salmon sashimi over rice) and half cold soba. I absolutely loved it!

The restaurant experience was pretty good, I would give it 4 stars. However, I felt that the food was a bit too salty and arrived slightly cold, but that could have been due to the delivery time. Visualizza piatti

I opted for the eel and soba set, but was a bit disappointed by how tiny my piece of eel was. Also, I wished the soba was colder, especially the dipping sauce because after all, I had ordered the cold option. Perhaps that way, the noodles would have a chewier texture.

Ordered the special meal set. You have a choice of eels on rice, salmon or tempura with either udon or soba (cold or hot). The meal came very quickly and it was delicious. Afterward, we ordered the appetizer, the house-made green tea creme bruise. It has a very good texture and good taste. By the way, the soba is also made in-house. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice. I highly recommend this place.

"We went to Bread N Wine on a early Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were greeted and seated by the servers who were attentive. The food was okay the bread was really soft and fresh. My partner got the French Lentil Soup, Spinach and Tomato Egg Bake andI got the French onion soup, egg omelette with spicy tomato avocado and onions. I wasn 't happy with my omelette because thespicy just meant it was covered in hot sauce within. For beverages, we got chai lattes (we later found out it wasn 't tea basedbut rather coffee) and we had the option of oat milk, almond milk or regular milk. In terms of our overall experience we feltby the end too many things were steering the experience south; the worst was when we were accused of using counterfeit money topay for the tip. There was no special marker used to prove that the money was counterfeit or technology to back up this claim. That experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth as we left embarrassed by that claim, kind of shook from that, we stilladded the tip to our credit card 18%. As we walked out and talked about how weird that was, the owner of the business nextdoor overheard us and asked to see the $20 bill he showed us that our money was real and validated what we knew, that themoney wasn 't counterfeit. When we went back into Bread N Wine to discuss this there was no apology, just well, it felt thatway , shrug. It left a terrible feeling. We would not go back after that, this is not how you treat customers from start tofinish, hence the 2 star review."
