"40.72964 -73.98785 Among a ton of Japanese restaurants in East Village, Soba-ya looks like and really is an ordate Japanese buckwheat soba udon restaurant, exempt not sitting on the floor, tatami mats and leaving your shoes at the door. No other competing Asian cuisines on the menu. Co-owner and mini-mogul, Bon Yagi, prefers authenticity to flash in his restaurants. No QR-codes in this Michelin Bibi Gourmand restaurant. With loud Americans inside, soundproofing is lacking. As appetiser, we ordered in June 2023 Dashimaki Tamago Japanese-style egg omelette, made by rolling thin layer upon thin layer of egg) and miso soup $5). The soup arrived, but not the egg omelette, before our Yasal udon soup with mixed vegetables and mushrooms $22) arrived. Lost in translation? The thick udon broth was hearty and flavourful. Well prepared and enjoyable. Soba-ya serves very good udon, but the service could be better. Recommended."

Amazing place as always, one of the best soba restaurants in the world. Quality comparable to soba noodle in Japan.

The restaurant experience was pretty good, I would give it 4 stars. However, I felt that the food was a bit too salty and arrived slightly cold, but that could have been due to the delivery time.

The cold soba was a delightful summer indulgence and the seared salmon belly, Aburi Sake Toro, was the standout dish of our meal. It melted in our mouths and left our taste buds wanting more! Overall, we rated the food a 4 out of 5.

It's a lovely japanese soba shop. We ordered the soba with tempura and duck soba. The tempura was surprisingly fresh and good. We are visiting from Toronto and we think that there's no such soba shop like that in Toronto! It's definitely a must-visit spot! View menu

This restaurant in the East Village is fantastic! The atmosphere is lovely and the food is excellent. The prices are very reasonable for the location. I highly recommend trying the kanban curry, it was delicious! Overall, I give this restaurant a 5/5 rating for the food.

The broth was delicious and I really enjoyed the noodles. However, I was not impressed with the hot shrimp tempura soba as I felt the tempura lacked flavor. Perhaps trying the cold version would be better. Dinner was on the pricier side, but I would consider returning for a cold soba lunch. The restaurant got quite noisy during dinner service, which made it difficult to have conversations.

If you've been following me for a while, you'll know that I'm a fiend for soba noodles. The lightness of each noodle and balance of flavors makes it one of my favorite dishes.Soba-ya definitely doesn't disappoint. This here is the Ikura Oroshi, cold soba topped with ikura, seaweed, grated radishes... it's pretty much the perfect bowl. Pour the dashi over the noodles and enjoy it with the wasabi.@phidingthefam View menu

Ordered both the soba and salmon sashimi. The soba noodles were cooked well and did not stick to each other as I ate. But, I was ignored by one of the servers, who seemed to avoid wanting to take my order when I raised my hand and also for when I wanted to ask for the check to pay, despite the fact that he was serving all the other customers sitting in the area I sat in. He made eye contact and simply looked away. Though, it may have been because it was busy when I came :

Happy to stop by here for lunch! As a frequent visitor to Japan, I really recommend their buckwheat noodles! Although some little thing about other dishes that could be improved but overall worth to visit..!Noodles were really really outstanding, chewy but not soggy! And a ince I ordered Ten Zaru, the set came with shrimps tempura. Each of them was huge, crispy, and juicy inside..! AMAZING!For appetizer, I got sliced duck. It was tasty although slightly expensive.Last, matcha crème brûlée as dessert. I was a little bit sad because the burnt sugar didn’t go over all surface (as you may see in the photo, it only covered the middle part. The main cream part was good, a nice twist using matcha t...

"We went to Bread N Wine on a early Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were greeted and seated by the servers who were attentive. The food was okay the bread was really soft and fresh. My partner got the French Lentil Soup, Spinach and Tomato Egg Bake andI got the French onion soup, egg omelette with spicy tomato avocado and onions. I wasn 't happy with my omelette because thespicy just meant it was covered in hot sauce within. For beverages, we got chai lattes (we later found out it wasn 't tea basedbut rather coffee) and we had the option of oat milk, almond milk or regular milk. In terms of our overall experience we feltby the end too many things were steering the experience south; the worst was when we were accused of using counterfeit money topay for the tip. There was no special marker used to prove that the money was counterfeit or technology to back up this claim. That experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth as we left embarrassed by that claim, kind of shook from that, we stilladded the tip to our credit card 18%. As we walked out and talked about how weird that was, the owner of the business nextdoor overheard us and asked to see the $20 bill he showed us that our money was real and validated what we knew, that themoney wasn 't counterfeit. When we went back into Bread N Wine to discuss this there was no apology, just well, it felt thatway , shrug. It left a terrible feeling. We would not go back after that, this is not how you treat customers from start tofinish, hence the 2 star review."
