"I recently moved to Bainbridge Island from San Francisco and decided to try out the Japanese restaurant that has been touted as the best in the area. However, I was disappointed to find out that it is actually the only Japanese restaurant on the island. The sashimi was served warm, which was unappetizing, and the O Toro, which was priced at $24 for two pieces, was not enjoyable due to the presence of tough, inedible membranes throughout. The spicy tuna in the spicy tuna roll was over-mashed, resulting in a paste-like texture. Coming from San Francisco, where there are numerous outstanding Japanese restaurants to choose from, I was surprised by the lackluster quality of the sushi at this establishment. The five star reviews must have been from people who are not familiar with good sushi or did not order sushi at all. Adding to my disappointment, the woman working at the sushi bar was rude and disrespectful. I also want to clarify that the "fresh" salmon mentioned in another review was actually previously frozen, as this is necessary to eliminate any parasites. Despite my negative experience with the sushi, I would recommend trying the house saki."

"I had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday dinner at Agate with my family! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was top-notch. We enjoyed the Salmon Pâté, Steak with Hollandaise Sauce, Agate Burger, Macrina Giuseppe with Whipped Butter, Olive Tapenade, Bucatinni with Tomato Sauce. , which were cooked to perfection, and everyone left satisfied. The staff was attentive and friendly, and they made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, and the overall experience was very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend Agate for a birthday dinner or any special occasion. It's a great place to gather with family and friends and enjoy a delicious meal. "Unfortunately, I can neither say that this food is authentic or good. I have been here twice and I was hoping that the second time would be a redemption but it was probably worse than the first time. I have eaten a lot of Vietnamese food in my lifetime and there was only one dish that tasted vaguely Vietnamese? I understand that it was part of a fusion concept but many of the menu items just didn't make sense and the menu felt very incohesive. The ambience was nice though and we were seated on the outside patio on a chilly fall day. I feel like it could have been more heated, but that's just a minor complaint.I ordered the chicken buns, chicken pho, and the vermicelli noodles with grilled pork. The vermicelli noodles were the most Vietnamese and it was acceptable. Good char on the pork, although it felt like something was missing-maybe it was that they didn't give the proper herb bundle with mint and such. The chicken buns were not great as the chicken was chewy and stringy, instead of being juicy and moist. Finally, the most egregious menu item was probably the chicken pho with the onsen egg. To be honest, I don't even know what an onsen egg is doing in pho; it didn't work. The chicken, just like the karaage, was very much overcooked and not done as traditional pho ga chicken. It was tough and stringy, and the broth was overwhelmingly a massive salt bomb. The soup was so salty that I couldn't even even drink more than two sips.Finally, the service just wasn't great when I went. I had to flag down the waiter multiple times to even order and ask for water, and there weren't even that many other tables. I also felt frustrated at the end when I was trying to pay for the bill, the waiter took a credit card from my grandparents when I pleaded with him not to and he explained, he was very much first come first serve. I understand this is some specific cultural social norm and not something to drag a waiter into, but it did feel tone deaf. Unfortunately, I just can't see myself returning especially considering the price point is high. There is much better Vietnamese or Asian for a much better price point in Seattle."

"We went to Mora several times while we lived in Bainbridge and the ice cream just didn’t do it for me. I tried several different flavors and all of them tasted bland to me. I think the best one I tried was Strawberry Cheesecake, so I’d recommend that flavor if you do go. But I think it’s inaccurate to compare Mora to Salt and Straw. Honestly, I’d just go to Town and Country and buy a pint of Jeni’s ice cream. That’s the best ice cream you’ll get on the island now that Emma and Otto’s closed."

"The margherita pizza and bruschetta were absolutely delightful! Although I wasn't fond of the spaghetti due to the thick noodles (I prefer the thinner, store-bought kind), the marinara sauce that came with it was fantastic. I would definitely return to explore more vegetarian dishes on the menu. If you love savory flavors, I highly recommend the cannolis for dessert. Overall, I would definitely come back for the pizza and bruschetta—they were delicious! There are also great vegetarian options available!"
