"I was checking out the Sugar Loaf artisan streets when I got hungry so I stopped by for a quick bite. I ordered the meatloaf Wellington and tap house salad to split with my boyfriend. Prices are on the high end side but we both were able to eat for a grand total of $40. The salad was simple but had a lemon vinaigrette and it was so good that my bf dipped the bread in it. The Meatloaf Wellington at Sugar Loaf Taphouse is honestly a hidden gem. It's like they took a comfort-food classic and gave it a gourmet upgrade. The meatloaf itself is tender and flavorful, wrapped in this perfectly golden puff pastry that's buttery and flaky in all the right ways. The mushroom duxelle they add gives it this earthy depth, and the gravy? Oh, the gravy--it ties everything together with this rich, savory finish. It's served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes that are so smooth, they feel like a hug for your soul. The portion is generous, and the presentation is surprisingly fancy for a taphouse. I love that the also include some veggies to balance out the heaviness of the dish. The vibe of the place is warm and inviting, too--like a small-town pub where you can just relax and enjoy good food. The staff is friendly, and you can tell they have pride in what they serve. They give great recommendations as well. If you want something comforting but elevated I highly recommend the meatloaf Wellington."
