"A fabulous long tradition!. I came here every summer since it was reopened in the 1970s. It was a favorite of my grandfather who brought me and my sisters after a hot summer day of swimming and boating at nearby Beulahsee. It is really a legendary landmark in the picturesque little town of East Troy. The menu has hardly changed in the last 36 years! All parasols are unique and creative, named after some of the landmarks from the area. The stoic, but friendly, John Lauber, owner since the beginning, still used only the best authentic ingredients that are probably not easy to find for him these days! He still runs the salon together with his annual revolving staff from local teenagers. The decor is all original from the good "oil days of the early 20th Century. Antiques and collector's items that have been saved by nearby Milwaukeee-Apotheken-Soda Fountains that have long gone. Prices are so cheap, tourists and visitors from the vicinity of Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison are stunned. All children love the penny candy counters near the front of the store that believe it or not, still has penny candy! The black and white Sundae, the Dusty Road and the extra thick chocolate Malted are my favorites. And don't forget to order a real Green River Softdrink or an authentic Cherry Coke with syrup and Seltzer, just in case you didn't have enough sugar! This is a true jewel and a long tradition of the area. It would be a shame if it ever closed the doors. P.S. Remember that it is closed during the winter months."
