"We just got back home from a ridiculously horrid experience thanks to an unprofessional manager on duty named Cara. We picked up an expensive order from a nearby restaurant which included a free sundae for Teacher Appreciation Week, and decided to stop at this Panera to pickup a complimentary drink as part of the drink promo. We literally waited in the drive thru for 45 minutes thanks to the poorly designed drive through which prevents cars from driving out of the drive in the event that a customer changes their mind or there is an emergency. What angered us is that the car in front of us held up the line for 20 of that 45 minutes but that customer should have been instructed to pull up to a holding space until their order was brought to them. When we finally reached the pickup window, we asked for a manager and that was Cara who needs to be fired for incompetency! She lied and said she did not have staff to take orders to cars, yet we witnessed a worker who did just that for another customer who pulled to a wait space. We showed her the melted sundae and advised that our food was cold but she did not care, only saying there is nothing I can do She kept asking what I wanted and when I advised her to compensate me for my food order from the other restaurant, she said, again, she is not responsible for orders from someplace else. Why ask me? Furthermore, we tried calling twice to ask that they instruct the other customer in front of us to pull up but they never answered the phone. I was so mad, I left without the drink and thinking I will never return! Awful manager! Awful decision on Panera's part to hire Cara who is incapable of making common sense decisions."

I can't believe I waited 30 minutes for a half chicken chipotle with avocado soup bowl. It seems like they forgot the chicken!

The wait time in the drive thru is always long. I've been in line for 7 minutes and it has not moved. There needs to be a better system in place.

eating and drinking is almost always fantastic. the real problem is that this place is always out of something. Brownies/out. bbq chicken salad/out of dressing. large drink/no big tassen.

ORIGINAL REVIEW - Thank you, Panera. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese ciabatta, but unfortunately, the bacon I paid for was missing. I am disappointed with fast food places that can't seem to get simple orders correct. It's a waste of time and money - customers deserve to receive what they paid for. View menu

Food was good as always, same as any Panera. However the service here was lacking on my visit.Took over 30 minutes for a rapid pick up, pre ordered salad at 1:30 pm. Did not appear to be short staffed so not sure what the issues were. No comments or apologizes from anyone working either. Staff was also marking carry out orders as “quality checked” without actually looking into the bags to verify full contents.

This is the worst Panera I have ever been to and I continue to come for the mere fact that it is close to work and it’s the only place in the area I can do my homework. I’ve often thought of leaving this review but decided not…This place is NEVER clean. Floors are always sticky, tables and seats always have food and crumbs. Can never understand why no one can clean when many times workers are just sitting or standing around.

This morning I arrived at the drive thru at 9:15 and there were about 4 cars ahead of me. It was moving very slowly and I didn?t get to the window until 20 minutes later. When I got to the window the server told me she was sorry about the wait and that they were extremely short staffed. She then offered me a complimentary drink or pastry. The explanation was understandable and I appreciated her gesture. I am sorry that I did not get her name but thank you again for great customer service and good food. View menu

I purchase food quite often for lunch as I work nearby. The food is good, the staff are friendly. However they have some of the worst drive through service. There's always something missing from the order such as no salad dressing....or only a quarter filled. I ask for butter and get none. But most frustrating is the time it takes to get through...today I've had it!! I waited 20 minutes stuck in drive thru...which ate a good portion of my lunch time, only to get back to work and find No salad dressing!! This needs Serious Attention!!

5/26/22 UPDATE…a month later and still bad. I have ordered this same sandwich weekly since my original review. Every week incorrectly prepared. Please train your people how to prepare the food you advertise. No bacon. Incorrect cheese. Not toasted. I never ask for anything special. I order the sandwich as advertised how hard can that be?!! ORIGINAL REVIEW >Thanks Panera. Supposed to be a bacon, egg and cheese ciabatta. One problem the bacon I paid for is missing. I’m over all these fast food places that can’t hear, read or follow instructions. Waste of time and money. Customers deserve to get what they pay for.

"If there is a restaurant that is a Birmingham institution among the wealthier crowd, there is literally only one name that locals would bring up, and it is undoubtedly Highlands. Not that there aren't other nice restaurants, but this spot has proven itself over time and is ran by a chef that most Alabamians are quite proud of. Opened in 1982, Highland's is a place that put Birmingham on the map in a positive way at a time when the post industrial iron period was about to wind down and transform the city. Frank formalized his cooking techniques by working in kitchens of San Francisco and France, creating a medley of American Southern and French cuisine that is difficult to find elsewhere. It was not a time when it was common to see a chef from Alabama going to study cooking in Europe, thus the story was already an anomaly. Frank Stitt was trying to pioneer sustainable agriculture and farming well before anybody in Alabama knew what in the world that actually meant or for that matter, cared. One of the signature items is the baked grits that has been around since the restaurant opened. It's a tasty grits preparation and without a doubt, something to try. The pheasant was spectacular, fairly lean and with a crispy delicious skin, served with grits and green beans. Pastries here are created by Dolester Miles, who has been in the job for well over 30 years. The opera cake is absolutely spectacular, gentle and complexly layered. The basque cake is peachy and moist, with a crispy delicious exterior and Chantilly cream. Not only are these likely the best desserts to discover in Alabama, but may be some of the best to be found in America. The attentiveness got derail was clearly evident. As far as service, generally fine, but not particularly attentive. The waitress did not seem in much of a mood to welcome people to the establishment. Many items on the menu were running out by 8:30pm on a Saturday night. Nobody was particularly impressed with the flounder that got substituted for the grouper. And then there are other questions, why would you run out of grits? They know they are always filled to capacity and ingredients to make grits are not immediately perishable. Highland's has by this point in Birmingham's history become a classic. It's evident that most people here have been around for decades working at their jobs and serving the rich crowds of Mountain Brook. It's a place of great food and shows many combinations of ingredients that are nearly impossible to find elsewhere, let alone be executed this well."
