"My family and I have been coming for years but recently the experience left much to be desired. We arrived lunch time during full house which was exciting for us to see. We sat down only to be left alone for 12 minutes waiting for a waitress or waiter to come take our order. Even the table who came after us ended up ordering and then receiving their food before us.When we received our first dish the spring rolls, they looked tasty but was not filled with much of anything as we expected herbs and such. The wrapper was also tough seemingly left in the fridge. Our Pho came out and we were happy to see the quantity of food even though it was a small. The broth itself was much sweeter than what we normally experienced. The tendons were tough and borderline inedible. Everything else was fine. We did enjoy the texture of the noodles because in other Viet restaurants, the noodles are usually overcooked. The last dish that came out was the water spinach. The first few bites were fine but after the dish cooled, you could taste the sweetness in the sauce and we could barely eat half of it.Price wise, it was okay with each bowl of noodles costing only $12 before tax. Spring rolls only 4.50, but the veggies were $15! Remember to go up to the cashier to pay because they won’t come to your table. In addition to that, when we attempted to pay, we were almost overcharged by $30. Luckily I checked the machine before tapping my card. Also, be aware of the tipping. They have buttons and one is even set at 30%. If they had come over and asked how the food was or even bothered to offer water I would have considered.Truly disappointed from our most recent experience and hope they get it together because we have had some nice times at this location.Grade : B"

My favorite viet spot on the north side. Very clean and friendly. The bun bo hue is amazing and it’s a good price.

Super delicious had the crab and shrimp combo and an order of hush puppies and it was amazing. Our friends also ordered the oysters and enjoyed them. Staff were so sweet. Will definitely be back.

This is a very welcoming, family-owned restaurant that serves generous portions and offers several vegan options. It's been recommended by Steve Dolinsky, which guarantees its quality! The photo showcases the "Vegetarian Soup." Overall, I give the food a rating of 5 out of 5. View menu

They've changed! Perhaps there's a new chef? We've been loyal customers since they opened and never considered going anywhere else for pho because their broth was exceptional and the portions were generous. However, our recent visits have all been disappointing, with dishes being overly salty, noodles overcooked, and the service lacking. It's really sad, but now we need to look for a new place.

Pho 5 Lua is a true hidden gem in Chicago, serving unforgettable Vietnamese cuisine. Their pho stands out with its rich, aromatic broth and perfectly cooked meats. The menu also includes tasty spring rolls and banh mi sandwiches. With a cozy atmosphere and attentive service, it creates a delightful dining experience. The reasonable prices make it a must-visit for anyone who loves Vietnamese food. Be sure to experience the authentic flavors of Pho 5 Lua during your time in Chicago.

Their PHO is good and fresh especially Pho Ga (chicken). Bun BO Hue (spicy Hue style noodle) is awesomely good. I also love their ice coffee, however I dnt think it’s made to order but probably pre dripped. We’ve been coming here at least twice a month for years and love them. The friendly, enthusiastic waitress Trang is always happy to greet customers. The only complaint I have after Covid is that they do NOT give water of any kinds. You have to buy their bottle waters for $1/each which is not expensive at all but water is not something I want to pay at a restaurant. View menu

The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the pho dac biet. The broth was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the generous portions of beef, tripe, and tendon were also expertly prepared. I particularly enjoyed the ample side of fresh herbs and bean sprouts that accompanied the dish, adding an extra layer of freshness and flavor. In addition to the fantastic food, the ambiance at Pho Nam Lau was wonderful. The decor and layout of the restaurant made me feel as if I were transported back to Vietnam, complete with traditional artwork and seating arrangements. Overall, I highly recommend Pho Nam Lau for their delicious pho and ex...

Yesterday, I ordered my usual coffee, excited for the enjoyable experience I remembered. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm waned quickly when I received a cup overflowing with ice, resulting in only half a cup of actual coffee. I finished it in just three gulps, feeling unsatisfied and questioning the value of my purchase. Wanting to give Phở Năm Lúa another chance, I returned today and specifically requested less ice. Sadly, their response was disappointing; they served me a cup with barely half the desired amount. When I politely asked for it to be topped up, my request was denied, making me feel ignored and unvalued as a customer. These ongoing issues with coffee service have led me to belie...

"Tempesta is arguably one of the best sandwich shops in the city. They make a lot of their meats in house and use high quality ingredients so you know you’re getting the good stuff. Not only can you get a great sandwich, you can purchase most of their meats to go as well as other small artisanal grocery items. I have tried almost every sandwich they have on the menu but my top two choices would be the #1 The Dante and the #2 Yo! Vincenzo! The Dante is their version of a classic Italian sandwich but a bit on the spicier side. The Yo Vincenzo is a chicken parm and I personally think it’s the best chicken parm sandwich in the city. The chicken is perfectly crispy, and they use just the right amount of sauce where it doesn’t get soggy. Both of these sandwiches come on their fresh baguette which helps set them apart from other sandwich spots in Chicago just because of how good it is. The B Franklin is also a great option, and if you’re starving get the Wagyu Pastrami but be warned it is a very heavy sandwich because of that Wagyu. The last pro tip I’ll add in here is order your sandwich ahead of time if you’re doing takeout. This is a very popular spot and is always busy during the lunch rush so if you wait to order until you arrive you may need to wait for 10-15 minutes. That should speak to how good this place is because it’s in such high demand, so if you’re in Chicago make sure you stop in!"
