"I went to Sven and Ole 's for years before the pandemic, during the pandemic when it was carry-out only, and now I was just back there last week this summer. During the pandemic in 2020-2021 and last summer 2022, they were pretty desperate for staff. Like many of the businesses in Grand Marais and along the North Shore, they count on international staff coming in to work long hours in the busy tourist summers. The pandemic, the economy, and the extremely high cost of housing on the North Shore (thanks, Airbnb has made staffing hard, so they had to cut back on their hours and menu. This year, they are back to limited dine-in service, and I saw 3 friendly Japanese students, in addition to local teenagers, on staff. Staff appeared hard-working but not stressed. The food is the same wonderful Sven and Ole 's pizza that you know and love. Half of the dining room was open, and all the old-time local decor brought back memories of visits in previous years. I waited less than 5 minutes for a table to open up and less than 30 minutes for my pizza on a Saturday evening. So glad that Sven Ole 's is still open! It 's definitely worth a visit to this North Shore icon. Recommended! (The for sale sign is for the building, not the business."

Was in last spring. I guess they are moving to a new location, so I'm sure it will improve. The pizza was as delicious as ever. The dining area was like being in a museum that was packing up. I hope they can continue the tradition in new surroundings.Food: 5/5

The pizza is fine. It's not spectacular, but it is definitely fine. Wild rice on pizza is interesting and not available everywhere, which is fun. They are totally overwhelmed this summer given COVID and staff shortages, so lines are long and food is slow. That said, the system works as long as you are willing to be patient.

Order pizza in person only. It's very popular so choose your timing wisely. Right after they open doesn't appear to be the best idea since there are a lot of people waiting and anticipation. However at about 5:15 p.m. there was no line. I suppose that means you have to wait a really long time for your pizza though. Pick your poison! View menu

we were there at 16 o'clock and some people have already fought. take them only and order only people. after they give up their order, they give them a device that burns when their order is ready. our lasted about 40 minutes. at the time they only allowed orders for 7 and 12 inch pizza (during the celebration between christmas and new years.) we have the uffdah zah and margherita pizzas. our pizza made it 30 minutes back to our room in lutsen and was still delicious and worth waiting.

We did a date weekend came from La Crosse Wi to get the best Pizza Sevn and Olie. What a disappointment. My experience a few years back was nothing like this experience. What happened to the crispy delish crust. Now the crust taste like the store made crust you get at the grocery store. Toppings seem to be like the ones I remember but the crust was awful. Not sure why it had to change but won’t be coming back. So glad the area is beautiful and the walks we took where worth the trip but not the pizza crust

I was very curious about the wild rice in the pizza, so I gave it a try ... the crust was light with a good chew and the toppings and cheese were plentiful ... as far as the rice goes, there was actually wild rice sprinkled under the toppings, giving it an interesting, in a good way, texture ... the service consisted of a counter where you placed your order, a buzzer that informed you of when to get your pizza, and self-service paper plates and napkins ... the atmosphere was rough ... but the pizza was good! Kind of indirect review for now.... Sven and ole's is short staffed (like all other Grand Marais businesses) and had a decent line. We decided we didn't have time for that and got gas at the nearby holiday on our way back to our rental. Lo and behold the holiday has take and bake pizzas from S&V! And it was really good, so much better than national frozen brands at the same price. So, we got to enjoy wonderful pizza, just a little different approach. They should have a freezer full of those pies at the order window for people who are short time.

I was in town to a class at the north home folk school. decades ago, I had lived in northeast minnesota and was aware of this pizza place, but had never had a chance to taste her product. I had a pizza that had a series of ingredients, including wild rice and green pfeffer. the pizza was nice, the wild rice added to the taste profile, but the green pfeffer added to the taste profile a very hard aspekt and ruined my experience. I would think that a company that has so many years experience, a better task of presenting a taste profile, but this was a disappointment, the hard to the green pfeffer was too much attacked by the other ingredients so well married and were a wonderful experience that...
