"I used to go here for lunch semi-regularly with a friend from work, even though it was a long drive from our job. We went as fans of the cuisine and the food was always excellent. Tasty and generally spicy, the way I like it. It's been 2 or 3 years though and I had the opportunity to go back recently for a lunch buffet. So happy to report it is still delicious and spicy! And although they have doubled the size of their seating area, I don't think the prices went up. Along with the all-you-can-eat buffet, a waiter will bring you your choice of dosa. There are several varieties to chose from and you can't go wrong with any of them (except I'm not sure if all are vegan My favorite is their spring dosa as you get a mouth watering blend of crunchy veggies. It would be helpful to understand which items in the buffet are traditionally vegan vs. vegetarian, since the vegan ones aren't specifically labeled as such, though I'm sure you could ask. Unfortunately you can't eat everything they offer, but your taste buds will be very happy with what you can. Decor is mostly plain and functional with the major exception of several large framed prints which are sort of come hither or sexually suggestive depictions of life in India. I'll list this as a con, not because I'm a prude but it's a bit tacky and more thought could have been put into this. The overall impression is that the restaurant's a bit on the shabby side, but not chic. Would give Udipi 5 stars if they improved this."

Simple and delicious South Indian vegetarian dinner with family. It was worth the ride to Hillcroft. The services were fast and the food was tasteful and not very spicy. Recommend this restaurant.

this is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in houston, but some of the waiting staff do not know the menu very well and will suggest that contain milk. it is always best to check with the manager.

If you are craving for South Indian food, you must go to this. Medu Vada, Mysore masala dosa, Medium crispy Rava dosa and a Filter coffee is what we ordered. It was so tasty that we ordered another plate of medu vada and filter coffee which I can have anytime pf the day. or may be specially go to this place to just have the filter-coffee View menu

Whether you dine in or take out this place does not disappoint. The food is phenomenal and service has always been great. Most times we dine in and get the Thali cause the price is great, but we've also gotten their Yellow Dal Thadkadwala, Muteer Paneer, Chana Masala, Paneer Tikka Masala, Paratha, Phulka, and Mango Juice and it's all been very tasty.

I tried Masala and I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I ordered the mushroom Masala with a side of red bread. They also gave me a complimentary vegetable soup while I waited. The mushroom dish was delicious and I ended up ordering a second portion because I enjoyed it so much. I definitely plan on coming back. Next time, I will make sure to ask for their vegan recommendations when I visit Udipi again.

Good chances to get fresh idli when visiting for breakfast on weekends. I got Ilis here for picking up several times, from everything they were good, only when mentioned in the restaurant at the time. Idlis here are similar to those of andhra idlis. Sambar was common, I don't mean sweet. The Chutneys were also decent. Not a fan of Dosa, felt a little like Instant Mix ones. And finally the Mangalore Bajji, they are made with maida (these are called mysore bajji in andhra). View menu

If you want authentic South Indian flavor, I recommend this place. Once you place an order, they will serve you an appetizer of Indian soup called Rassam. The staff was polite. I guess all employees are Mexican. I went to lunch on a weekday, so the restaurant was quite empty. We ordered Mini thali and South Indian express. The quantity and quality of the food is good. The pricing of foods is appropriate in view of the best situation. If you want authentic South Indian vegetarian food, visit Udipi Café. P.S. Udipi is a city in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

First of all, don't judge what it looks like on the outside! The interior is bright and airy with comfortable, clean seating. We had the manglorean bhajje as a starter, and a masala dosa as well as an express Thali that came with a dosa, medu wada, Idli, Upma and Sheera. Large portion sizes (not complaining about it, meant that we go to most Upma and Sheera. The Medu Wada was crunchy and soft inside on the outside, Idli was well steamed, and the accompanying Chutneys were OK the best was the tomatoes Chutney, while the coconut was runny and not so tasteful. The Sambar was also good, but the star was the ransom they served before the meal! The filling within the masala dosa was not sufficient...

"Food good. Location good. Service good. BUT, the hidden charges REALLY ruined an otherwise nice experience. Example: HH menu lists Martinis as a $3 upcharge to the $7 base charge. Fair enough. Bombay is a listed alcohol; requested. When the bill was returned I was charged for a Bombay Sapphire which is not on the HH list. Charge? $11 $3. I asked for Bombay, not Bombay Sapphire. Waiter: Oh, let me look into that. AND, by the way Blue Cheese olives? Extra $1. REALLY? I 've NEVER paid extra for BC olives ANYWHERE. AND the confusing menus that a dish as including an extra sauce, [and I don 't recall the exact language but it made it seem that an additional items could be selected as well. Oops, there goes an extra $10.95. AND, the waiter recommending a twice-baked potato. Bah, boom, another $5.95. [which in fairness is disclosed on the menu in a different location, but waiter made it sound as if it was a no-charge option on the surf and turf. AND the split plate charge which I don 't think was disclosed on the menu. Ding, ding, extra $3.00. Was this a waiter, who was overly up-selling or restaurant deception? Don 't know. As I said, the food WAS good. AND, the ambience [at least in the bar area, stay away of the hotel-ballroom-like main dining area was nice. Just beware the nickel and dime charges that the waiter won 't be disclosing to you."
