"We loved finding this place! Since my husband loves golf I thought it was very fitting. The view is incredible. When we dined it was a bit smoky due to the fires but we still sat outside for the pretty view. I would say overall the people are really nice but the service needs some work. We mentioned to the server it was our anniversary and she happily congratulated us but I guess I just expected a dessert or something to make the dinner experience more exceptional. There were no check ins on how the food was (I would have gladly shared my oily pasta saga). When I asked the server what kinds of desserts they had she shrugged her shoulders and said “I don’t know, let me get you a menu.” If you work somewhere you should know the menu and be able to suggest items! Lots of high school summer workers and very polite and courteous. We’d definitely go back for sure next time we’re in Truckee"

"Not the restaurant’s fault that it was too smoky to dine outside, however I didn’t appreciate the sticky high top table provided right next to the entrance, nor the fact that we were ignored by the waitstaff for about half an hour after being seated. We were kindly allowed to move inside to the more formal dining area when requested. Tomato soup en croute was delicious as were the scallops and burger. Sadly the most expensive dish, Alaskan halibut was overcooked and dry, veggies would have been good if not over salted. If not for the disappointing halibut, the food would have earned or stars instead of For the price charged, halibut should have been excellent. Waitress offered no recourse when told it was overdone. Would be nice if the wine list had more reasonably priced selections, starting at about is a little steep. The French Chardonnay was very good as it better be for over I’ll think twice before making another journey to Truckee from Zephyr Cove for a dinner out at Moody’s"

"I've been dining here for years but last week was a disappointment. Although the meat dishes were delicious the one vegetarian choice on the menu (truffle risotto) was definitely not. We had a wonderful waitress who helped make up for the very confused and slightly rude experience at the hostess stand. Unfortunately their amazing setting on the lake was marred by the smell of bleach from the kitchen vent nearby. They're aware of this but for some reason haven't fixed it. We love this place and hope they can up their game!"

"We came looking for a burger and had to choose between this place and Burger Me. Maybe the wrong choice? Burger was huge very tasty meat. But both wife's and mine were way overcooked. Fries were lousy. Also they had homemade Dijon mustard but we only learned that later. They brought out only yellow mustard (ich). And of course no malted! Salad was excellent and sauteed veggies we're excellent. Next time we try Burger Me."

"Made reservations ahead of time, we were a party of six. Worst service ever!! Management could care less about your wait and hunger! We waited over an hour for our meal! After an hour when I went to go find the Maitre D/Host, he was eating his dinner at the bar! He could care less and told me that we should of been told that our food was going to come out late and that they only have 6 burners, so then do NOT have 2 large parties on the same night, that is why you require reservations!! Food was ok, but it was overshadowed by very poor service. They also make it that you can not call them and talk to the owner or email them to discuss their service. They must be experienced with plenty of complaints to not have an outlet for customers. I do NOT recommend this place. It broke my heart to see my daughter, who lives in Truckee and was excited to have us try this place and we had such a bad experience. It is not worth visiting you can find better places."

"We have visited The Sawyer multiple times and have always received great service and food. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was not as good. It was Father's Day, so we understand that they were busier than usual, but it took almost 2 hours to receive our food. The server only checked on us once during this time, informing us that our food would be ready in a few minutes, which ended up being 15 minutes later. Our drinks also took a long time, about 30 minutes. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. The highlight of the evening was the band, The Imposters, playing on the lawn. The food was mediocre."

"Oh my goodness! There is so many great things to say about this place. Let's start with our waitress, Courtney. She was AWESOME! She was super nice (we had 5 kids with us ranging in ages from 13 to 6). She was patient with the kids and answered all of their questions and had a great attitude. We went during happy hour which had some great options. I wish I'd of sprang $2 more for the shot of whiskey bc 5 kids...whooo mama needed it We ordered the hummus and flatbread snack, it was very flavorful and the flatbread had a nice texture and had some spices on it that brought out the flavors of the hummus, which had pistachios and kalamata olives on top. Super yummy. We chose to stick to pizzas since we were on our way home and had a 3 hour drive ahead of us, so it came out promptly.Pork belly and Padron was AMAZING! it had an amazing flavor with the honey. We also ordered a meatball pie. I'm super picky about meatballs and these balls were nothing less than absolutely perfect. They weren't overrun by fennel like some balls. The other two pizzas were aimed at the kids, cheese and pepperoni. As mundane as that sounds they were awesome also. The pepperoni had a great flavor and the cheese blend they use must've been made by unicorns because it was some of the best I've had. Now, let's talk about the crust. It was thin and not overpowering. The crust didn't take away from the magic of the toppings but added to the party that was going on inside my mouth!I will definitely be back next time I come to Truckee!Thank you Courtney! Update: 5/21/22Still AMAZING! Their cocktail menu is superb! Creative AND tasty! The hummus is fantastic! The pistachios taste super fresh and their olive oil is smooth. I would like to see a collaboration with their equally fantastic neighbor, Tahoe Oil Spice.I'm NEVER disappointed in their food or their service.5 stars, as usual!"

"Really wanted to like this place, especially since it's named after my pup . But unfortunately our experience wasn't very great. My dog would have checked in on me more. The hostess had a lovely welcoming smile and attended to us after we sat down, but then after that, while our water glasses were empty, she was folding napkins and cleaning tables that nobody every sat at. Maybe she thought that water filling and checking in was meant for the waitress but she was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. Mind you, it was not terribly busy when we first got there, although picked up by the end of our meal. The food was okay. Cauliflower appetizer was flavorful, roasted carrots were basic, octopus a bit too hard, bread tartine pretty to look at. Main dish of fish and gnocchi was bland. Friends ordered steak, waitress did not ask how they wanted it cooked. One friend specifically asked for rare, it came out well done so she sent it back. While I understand that getting attentive restaurant staff can be hard when there is only a few of them (seemed like 3 staff working the tables if you include the hostess), for the prices that we paid, the expectations were not met. We had to ask for more water, more wine, salt and the tab. Probably could have walked out without paying and no one would've noticed."

"During my teen daughter's vacation in the area with another family, we were searching for gluten-free dining options. Despite attempting to call multiple times around 3pm, we were unable to get through on the phone lines. Consequently, my daughter decided to visit the restaurant in person. Upon inquiring about gluten-free options, she was informed that the pizza is placed directly into the oven. When she asked if it could be cooked on a tray to reduce the risk of cross-contamination, she was told that the staff was too busy to accommodate her request for parchment paper. Despite the restaurant having only a few customers at the time, the worker proceeded to recount a story about her ex-boyfriend who had celiac disease, suggesting that pizza places are not suitable for individuals with dietary restrictions. My daughter ultimately left without placing an order. Despite my attempt to contact a manager or owner, I was informed that they were not on site. I am deeply disappointed by the lack of consideration shown by the staff towards a customer's dietary needs."

"This place provided prompt, polite and pleasant service and the food was some of the best we?ve had in Truckee. Let me start this review by clarifying that this is not a fancy restaurant. It is closer to a midrange sports bar that has good food and a fun vibe. They had a football game playing on all the TVs (no sound), easily visible if you wanted to watch the game. They take good care of the kids. They provide crayons and coloring sheets. They have many options for kids meals. Or kids said this was the best pasta they?ve ever had at a restaurant. Adult meals were great, too. Wife had a shrimp dish and I had spaghetti bolognese with a side of blue cheese salad. Everything was phenomenal. The salad used real blue cheese, not just crumbs. We ordered the crazy Italian which we don?t recommend as it?s a really strong rum taste. Unless you like rum, in which case, go for it. We then got a margarita which was very good. We?ll be back."

"I've been to this restaurant a hundred times, and even though I've had a bad experience, it hasn't deterred me from coming back. The food here is fantastic. It’s one of those places where once you figure out how you like your meal, you can call in your order ahead of time and trust that it will taste just as good as it always has. Or maybe that's just me and everyone I know! You should definitely give it a try. It's definitely a cut above your standard sandwich shop. By the way, they'll even let you know about FBD when you call to pick up your order."

"Coffeebar is one of those places that give me so much pleasure! The staff, the coffee and the vibe are always top Notch. Many mountain cities have sub par coffee shops, so when I found coffee bar, I was so excited! They take care of the brewing of perfect espresso and offer a variety of latte drinks. Do not sleep on their baked goods, because everything is fantastic and made in the house. I strongly recommend stopping here when you are in the area (but honestly, it is worth coming from everywhere in North Tahoe to spend the morning!"

"Alibi is a nice pub serving a small but mighty selection of foods. We ordered the Red, White and Blue which was a bake saucy pasta with chicken breast in a delicious hot sauce topped with blue cheese. The sauce was similar to Franks Hot Sauce. It was a great combination of ingredients! The Greek salad was delightful and colorful filledwith olives and the best feta cheese I've tasted super creamy and not too salty. The house made lemon vinaigrette dressing was amazing and was a perfect pair for the salad. Husband got the steak sandwich which was filled with slices of steak and pickles on the side. The steak was tender and it filled him up. If you drink beer, go here. If you like to eat great food, go here. If you drink beer with your food, definitely go here. PS: staff and guest were all friendly and the bathroom was clean!"

"I don 't normally write negative reviews. But the experience that I received for this place was mindboggling. Unbeknownst to me, the owner allowed a company to rent out the whole place for a few days. I watched the girl behind the counter take my order, pour a drink, then when I tried to pay tell me that I could not. When we arrived to the conclusion that I was not a part of thecompany renting out the establishment, I was told that I could not buy the coffee that was poured for me. For a small towncoffee shop it sure seems to be less interested in walk in customers, and more interested in throwing away already poured coffeeand plastic cups. I went down the street and got an amazing cold brew at Drink Coffee, Do Stuff. It sure seems that there arereasons why that place is significantly more active. To whatever reply the owner might give to this review, I would say: Don 'ttreat your customers poorly, and you won 't have a poorly run business."

"Like a few other reviews I'm now reading I wish they had something on yelp to let us know where their truck was. We were in Tahoe City walking down the block after dinner and passed the frozen yogurt place that had a decent size line, and I said pass I didn't want to wait. Just then I saw a couple of people walk by with ice cream cones so I walked passed a few more shops down and found their truck in the cobblestone plaza. I'm sure all their ice-cream is good, and every flavor my family got they all said was great, but TRUCKEE TRAILS, that is the legit best ice cream flavor combination I have ever had in my life. Sooooooooo good, I'm already decided that I'm going back again tomorrow"

"We dine at River Ranch as often as possible, and after finishing playing for the show, The Prom, with Truckee Community Theater, my husband and I had the privilege of taking my band members to dinner. It was fun being served by Esa, as always, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My drummer and 2nd keyboardist had not been to River Ranch, so it was totally fun to introduce them to this wonderful experience."

"The receptionist 's handling was terrible. When we arrived 10 minutes before my reservation, there was no one at the reception desk, so I asked a nearby staff member for help and was told to wait for 10 minutes. We waited but was not approached, and later-arriving guests were seated before us. When I approached the receptionist who eventually guided them, she said, You didn 't tell me, so there 's nothing I could do about it, without any apology. What should I have done in this situation? Server was courteous. Although the wait was long. The food was just plain good."

"Ugh, I really wanted to like this place. We went here with my in laws for a nice adults only dinner. The first thing that was frustrating was the cost to park the car. $25 half of what it would be normally just to park at the Ritz. Ugh. We had tried earlier in the day to find out how late the gondola ran so that we could park in the village lots and take the gondola up but we couldn't find anyone that knew the hours or had information at all. I'd suggest that this info should be made part of the reservation process. So once you swallow the $25 parking fee you head inside. It's a beautiful building with wood accents and a large stone fireplace. The ambience was what you'd expect from a nice hotel restaurant. My family will typically drink wine but as the cheapest by the glass was over $40 we decided to forgo beverages. The menu was full of fresh ingredients we started with a caprese salad and hamachi. Both were tasty happy to see heirloom tomatoes in the caprese. Our entrees included gnocchi with meatballs, cauliflower steak and corn soup. Everything served was good though for the price I felt it lacking. I could tell our server was irritated that we didn't order more especially alcohol or dessert. Our booth view faced the courtyard where there was a wedding reception taking place....not quite the beautiful mountainside vista we were hoping for. I always wondered about this spot and now I know we aren't missing something extraordinary....Glad we checked it out but happy to look elsewhere for an upscale dinner in Truckee."
