"This restaurant has tremendous amounts of potential, held slightly back by small little details that add up. First off, the venue is beautiful. The vibe, the decor, the location, it's absolutely excellent and sets the mood perfectly for any event. Having two levels leaves plenty of room, and spacious dining rooms. Next, the service staff is kind, welcoming, and helpful. However, they are missing some core rudiments which I would expect of a venue like this: regular stops to fill water, or dropping a water glass for self service. walking through the menu, offering suggestions for popular or seasonal items letting you know up front which dishes are good to share, and which are better ordered solo. The great thing is, the impression I got from the staff was that they're all incredibly eager, and willing to learn they may just not have been trained to do so. I say this in part because we noticed a manager making rounds of the guests and staff, and generally also glossed over these finer points of hospitality. Once impressed at the top, I have no doubt the staff would immediately take up the challenge and excel. Finally, the food. The bar program is impressive! I wanted to stay all day to try all the drinks the Bourbon Blaze was our absolute favorite. No notes, solid drinks. For the food, we found ourselves a little disappointed with discrepancies in description on the menu, and what we got. For example, for the Short Rib hash we were expecting potatoes akin to, well, a hash. Instead, we had a disappointingly small wedge of potato the short rib was plated on. Also, we ordered two dishes of short rib, and the salt levels were pretty different between them. For portion sizing, I had the country egg Benedict, which was also a bit on the saltier side, but more importantly was overwhelmed on the plate with salad. I loved having the salad with the Benedict, but the salad actually partially covered one of my eggs this was an overwhelming amount of greens that obscured the fact that I had two to begin with. In this particular case, less is more. Finally, for the desserts, the portion sizes were massive! Very, very generous, but I wish I had some warning up front how big the banana pudding and the apple crisp would be, either by the server or the menu. Each of those dishes could serve at least two people and we ordered one for each of us. Overall, there's definitely room for improvement, and I hope they do! Heritage has a lot of promise and I'm excited to see how they implement changes and improve further. I will absolutely come back to track their journey. "I've been visiting Rails Steakhouse for years and recently stopped in for a friend's birthday dinner on a Saturday evening at 8:30pm. The restaurant was packed and the vibe was great. There are three levels to this romantic steakhouse nestled in Towaco just next door to the train station. Keep in mind, on the weekends, they usually have complimentary valet service, which is nice. Upon entry, you're greeted by their friendly hostess and the main level of the restaurant, with a bar on the side. The upstairs level is another dining area with bar and that's where we were seated. The lower level of this restaurant and their speakeasy, Thirty3, is the best part part about this place; check out my review on this MUST visit well kept secret in NJ. Our party of 12 ordered some drinks by the bar while we waited for our table. We were then seated and promptly brought over menus. The general manager Mike, came over to greet us and apologized for the long wait and as a courtesy offered us complimentary pizzas. I thought this was a nice touch, and made us all feel valued as guests. Our server was equally as accommodating and patient with our entire party, offering his recommendations and thoughts on the menu items. None of which disappointed. I ordered a bottle of wine which wasn't terribly priced and quite delicious as it paired nicely with the lamb chops that I ordered for dinner. Everyone else at the table seemed very pleased with their entrees as there was a moment of complete silence as everyone enjoyed their meal LOL...(usually a good sign). At the end of the meal, the staff came out with assorted desserts and sang well wishes to the birthday boy. Overall, if you are looking for a dining option for a special occasion, date night or a delicious meal, Rails Steakhouse is a MUST try. Conveniently located with good service, romantic vibe and delicious bites, you won't be disappointed. Tip: If you have time to kill before or after your dinner, please don't miss out on visiting their cozy speakeasy, Thirty3, on the ground level, thank me later!!!"
