"My group of six recently celebrated a birthday dinner at Gyu-Kaku. We had both experienced diners and first-timers with us, all looking forward to the meal. We ordered a variety of small plates with different proteins, vegetables, dumplings, and garlic noodles. Unfortunately, the evening did not meet our expectations. The main issue was with the grill, which did not seem hot enough to cook our food efficiently. Only one small "hot spot" with a visible flame was present. Despite bringing this to our server's attention, adding oil to the grate did not help much, and we struggled with uneven cooking. Service was another area of concern, as while our server was polite, the attentiveness was lacking. Our waters needed refilling multiple times, and the slow service led us to skip ordering dessert altogether. Given the price point, leaving the restaurant feeling somewhat hungry was disappointing. Our visit was on a Thursday evening, which may not have been their busiest time. While we were excited to try Gyu-Kaku, the overall experience was underwhelming, and we do not feel compelled to return. It was okay, but not memorable or satisfying enough to warrant a second visit."
