"We visited Rio for the first time and had a wonderful experience. We really enjoyed our meal! We began with the combination plate, which turned out to be a bit too much for the two of us, so we decided to share it. While our steak wasn't cooked the way we requested, it was still delicious. Our server was also tending the bar, which contributed to a less-than-ideal service experience; we felt they didn't check on us often enough and our drinks were emptier than we would have liked. Despite these issues, I would definitely recommend this place and would be happy to return."

"I have dined in and ordered to go and have enjoyed the food. This last visit was not so pleasant. One of the orders was incorrect and after the waitress checked on the error she said she couldn't do anything about it. The cook came out and asked how the food was and I informed him the order was incorrect but the waitress would not switch tit he correct one. He apologized and stated he would make the correct dish. I must say I enjoyed the food in the past. Not sure if it's under new management but it's not the same."

"I always call ahead for pick up and aways got what I ordered- except once. Their prices are a little high but not too many of them so supply and demand reign Supreme. I would recommend trying it out. It's pretty authentic. Vegetarian options: Not too many vegetarian dishes but they accommodated. Parking: Parking lot too small. "I've been here many times. The service is wonderful. When Paulie is tending bar, you never want to leave because the drinks are works of art. But when he isn't the drinks are so-so. Rebecca is charming, welcoming, attentive and gracious. Now for the downside. The appetizers are absolutely delicious but expensive for a tiny portion. The large plates are sort of hit and miss. The preparation of the main entree can be Interesting but the side dishes are extremely mediocre. Sadly the last time my husband and I were there the rice was inedible, the beans were bland and the tostones were like stones. I'm not giving up on this place because it has been wonderful. So maybe it's just going through a little rough patch."

"Upon arrival , the staff did not know our party of 10 was coming and seems surprised. The downstairs area was cold ,and they tried to put us on a table for 8 . We asked to be upstairs, to find that our table was ready upstairs but the staff didn't know it. Upstairs was warmer and the music was quieter so we could hear one another. The waiter tried to talk us out of going upstairs because he didn't want to have to go up and down the stairs to wait on us. Once things got started , it turned out to be a very nice evening. The waiter turned out to be very accommodating, friendly. We did apologize for his need to go up and down the stairs. The food was excellent , and the spicy sauces were fun to experiment with . Everyone enjoyed themselves once the initial confusion was over."

"I had the pleasure of dining in for dinner, and I can confidently say it was a fantastic experience. The price per person was between $30 to $50, which I found to be quite reasonable considering the quality of everything. The food was exceptional, earning a perfect score of 5. Each dish was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. Equally impressive was the service, also rated a 5. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was the cherry on top, receiving another perfect 5. The ambiance was inviting and delightful, creating a lovely backdrop for the evening. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for a memorable dinner experience!"

"Food was good. The ‘Service’ was non existent and it had the ambience of a cheap cafeteria which explained why we were the only people in the restaurant from 6.00pm to 7.30pm on a Saturday night. I️ will not eat there again, which is sad as the food was actually very tasty. In my opinion, absent owners and absent management is to blame."

"SARASOTA’S BEST KEPT SECRET. We ended up here because Antoine‘s and the other restaurant in the strip mall were closed on Wednesday. Wow we got lucky. The food is outstanding. The waitress was new, but very charming and very accommodating. Everything taste it like it was made right fresh that day. I had the lamb, and I couldn’t of been happier. They had three things for dessert on the menu with each got one of them I would order all three again on my own.This place has a winner written all over it. I think it’s one of the best kept secrets in Sarasota."

"DO NOT BE AFRAID of the neighborhood or the outside look of this restaurant! The food is luscious, the wait staff, friendly and the place is really clean. You will NEVER find any chicken anywhere that is better than Peruvian rotisserie chicken. This location has Moma in the kitchen. Other locations can replicate the minutes, but there's only one Moma. Try it once and I gaurantee you will make it a regular stop."

"I visited this restaurant on a Friday afternoon, and it was quite empty. The food was mediocre. We ordered chicken enchiladas, but the waiter kept suggesting beef instead. We insisted on chicken, but when the order arrived, it was beef. We had to ask for the chicken enchiladas again. When we finally took a bite of the chicken enchiladas, we were shocked to find bones in them, which made us cough. When we brought this issue to their attention and requested a refund, they denied our request, saying we had already taken a bite. They claimed it couldn't be removed from the bill since it was already in the system. This experience was terrible, and I will never return to this restaurant."

"We made a reservation for were not seated until We were offered a free non alcoholic beverage in exchange for the wait. We were told they did not have their iPad at the time of opening and they were not aware our reservation, which was made more than hrs in advance. They took our order while we waited so that we could be 'served right away.' We did not eat until after pm. The food was EXCELLENT, we truly enjoyed our meals.. but at this point we were starving. Their restaurant week menu was not a deal, if you added up the items from the regular menu it all came out the same, not to mention the empanada starter was so small and you only got one"

"We were at this restaurant with a reservation at 6:30pm (week ago) Freida the server is the owner’s daughter and it did not feel to us that she cared for her Mexican customers who were at Villa Peru for the first time, she was more concerned with pleasing her white American customers than her Mexican American customers equally and it took 1HR and 1/2 to get our food and appetizers prior to that, of course to no surprise there was cero apology on her part, she never acknowledged the kitchens issues they were having and her follow up was less than perfect, her white American customers got served an her undivided attention but my guests (party of 6) were treated like they did not mattered, when the food finally got to us, like our appetizers they were semi-warm, the meals did not get to us for about an hour and a half, just about the time they were about to close; we are avid foodies and have been to many restaurants and yes we have experience on what great customer services looks like at family owned venues, but Villa Peru definitely did not meet our expectations, poor service, poor tasting food and cold! Since the server didn’t bother to check on our meal status. The rib eye plate was luke warm and apparently they run out of one of their menu choices but told us about it an hour later, so one of my guests didn’t get the meal they wanted. This was a Saturday evening event, how are you not prepared for a weekend venue. Most definitely we do not recommend this place at all, whataburger has better service- please don’t waste your time whit this awful service!"

However, it is with a heavy heart that we learned the restaurant will be closing its doors next Saturday due to unfair treatment from their landlord.
