"The Original Hawaiian Royal w Fried Rice Portugeuse Sausage, Char Sui (Chinese BBQ Pork), Eggs, Fried Rice, Sprouts, Onions 5! Spam Masubi spam, rice, sauce, seawood wrap 5! Hawaiian style Macaroni Salad 5! I am a fan of Hawaiian food partly because it is a wonderfully, eclectic blend of influences from other cuisines and has evolved far enough to have its own distinct culinary identity. Rutt's Hawaiian Cafe, an LA Hawaiian cafe with a few locations around the SoCal area, fully embraces the food that makes Hawaii special. Their menu includes a large list of island favorites. I was drawn towards the Royale dish, which is something that isn't available at lots of other Hawaiian places. A Royale is an egg omelette dish mixed with rice and fillings. I went with their original which includes sausage and char sui and I went for the fried rice version. It was amazing! So much flavor with all the ingredients mixed together. Every bite was magic. It was also insanely filling. I used some of the bbq sauces on the table to add a bit more kick. I love Hawaiian style macaroni salad as well as spam masubi. Had I known how big the royale was, I'd probably have just ordered that but I was keen to try some other items. No regrets! The spam masubi is always a fun dish to have. It is a nice savory sweet combo and hit the spot. Their take on the macaroni salad was also excellent. The restaruant is bright and colorful. I like that a large copy of the menu greets you at the door. There are lots of seats inside and outside on a patio. The servers were friendly and helpful. My server is who convinced me to try the royale. There is a very small parking lot connected to the restaurant but it also looked like there was lots of easy street parking. If you love Hawaiian cuisine or if you are curious what makes a great Hawaiian dish, give Rutt's a try! They have been open for a long time and have a lot of great food in their friendly, colorful location."

"I'm not the type of guy who goes out of his way to write a review, especially a bad review. I usually write a great review to the places where I love the food and the service, because I feel that great food and great service deserve to be recognized. Unfortunately I can't write a great review for this place. I have been here before and the food was always good, that's not my complaint. It's a place where I go when I don't have a lot of time for lunch. Today, the food was just like usual, but a couple things happened: I had a friend join me and we both ordered our food and he ordered the beef plate and specifically said he wanted all beef and no chicken. (their plate comes with half chicken and half beef) We paid the bill, got our drinks and waited about 15 minutes, which I felt was reasonable given that it was lunchtime and the place was fairly busy. At that point, one of the employees walks over to our table holding a receipt and asks us if that was our order. We said it was, and she said come up to the counter and get your food. At point I'm thinking: this girl walked over to the rear of the restaurant knowing the order was ours, but instead of bringing the food to us, she asked us to go back to the front and get it ourselves. No big deal, it's essentially a fast food place and maybe the restaurant has certain rules due to COVID that prohibits the employees of touching the food. (they already touched it when they put it on the front counter, but whatever) My order was good and I got what I ordered. My buddy opened his food and he got half chicken and half beef, after he specified he wanted all beef. No big deal, things happen. He takes his food to the front counter and tells the employees what the problem was and they said they would fix it. He sits back at our table waiting for his order and and shortly after an employee walks up to him and tells him that in order for them to give him all beef, they would have to charge him an additional charge, since apparently the clerk did not charge for all beef. At that point, my buddy went up to the front and asked for the manager's name. He was told it was company policy not to disclose the name of the manager. At that point, he just asked for his entire refund, since it's been over 25 minutes since we ordered and I had already finished my meal, plus we had to get back to work. The clerk then just issued him a refund and after doing so, she sarcastically told him that they were just going to throw his previous order in the trash. I'm not in the restaurant business, but I know bad customer service when I experience it. Nobody at this place has any common sense or the desire to make it a pleasant place to eat lunch. A person with common sense, would have apologized for getting the order wrong and made it right, but instead they gave a full refund, threw an order in the trash and disappointed two customers who will probably not return. I don't know who owns or runs this place, or if they even know what's really happening there, but hopefully this gives them an idea."

"First, I'm gonna say that for the same price and portion, this is the best bbq short ribs you'll get from a chain Hawaiian bbq restaurant. Each piece is the half the size of a regular container. Very meaty, not chewy, perfect amount of fat, and the bones are small. Also, I asked for veggies instead of all the sides in my combo because I'm on keto, and they gave me broccoli, which is exactly what I want! I appreciate that. Even though the next time they gave me steamed cabbages(maybe because I ordered a mini meal), but still, way better than Aloha who literally just gave me the free raw cabbage strips base that came with every meal....I'll always choose here over them. It's the first time I tried garlic shrimp from a Hawaiian bbq place and my mind is blown! It's the exact way and flavor Cantonese people love to make their seafood with!!! I love it so much it's so garlicky and fresh I can't wait to order a whole portion of it next time. The bbq pork chops is like the same flavor as the chicken, but it's huge! It's like almost the size of a whole regular box. And it's cooked to a perfect texture, so when I reheated it the next day it starts getting chewy. I love to eat it with a mix of sriracha and soy sauce with a bit of katsu sauce. The chicken my boyfriend always ordered is juicy and tender with good flavors too, he always got two mini ones so that he can have as much chicken as possible. They taste great with the katsu sauce. We'll definitely keep ordering from here when we are craving some Hawaiian bbq!"
