"Pei Wei Asian Diner is a familiar establishment throughout the nation. The Belle Isle location is clean, quick, efficient, and with friendly staff. As an Asian, I prefer authentic dishes in Asian District, but I can still appreciate American-Asian food. Pei Wei does this very well and I know lots of people who enjoy meals here.
The quality of the food for what it is is above average (compared to, say, Panda Express). We ordered their new Kung Pao Shrimp Sushi Roll, Chicken Fried Rice, Crab Wontons, and Chocolate Chip Cookie. The sushi roll is essentially their Mango California Roll with fried Kung Pao Shrimp and nuts on it. There were lots of chicken in the fried rice and it was pleasantly served hot, but in my opinion, could have cooked longer with the rice since it was still relatively hard grains. The Crab Wontons were served lukewarm, but was delicious! The Chocolate Chip Cookie was a little hard, but it was acceptable. Out of these 4 food items, from most favorite to least, it would be: Kung Pao Shrimp Sushi Roll, Crab Wontons, Chocolate Chip Cookie, and Chicken Fried Rice.
I'd also like to add that we have gone to this Pei Wei before and had a terrible experience. We sent in a survey and were contacted promptly by a Guest Representative, who more than supplemented our meal with 2 $10 gift cards. While I prefer better quality food, their follow-up customer service and how efficient their system are what makes Pei Wei a very good company to support.
Notes: Many, many people enjoy Pei Wei. If you like Chinese-American or American-Asian dishes, Pei Wei is for you. Also, if you are in a rush, they get their dishes done in a jiffy!
