"I’ve been coming to Talkeetna since 2008, and I’ve been to The Flying Squirrel about 4-5 times and each time I go, it takes me years to go back, kind of like I hear about women getting pregnant after the memory of child birth wears off!??The bakery goods are always yummy and the items you order are usually pretty good if they get the order right. However, I saw a few comments in other reviews of good service which blows my mind…this, along with the high prices is why don’t come often. We have a cabin in Talkeetna and I come 5-6 times a summer and yet I’ve been 4-5 times since 2008!This time it was about 10:30am and I we were starting a hike late so I thought it wouldn’t be busy so we would be in and out quick! Not so fast my friend! We had one couple in line in front of us who finished ordering about 30 seconds after we got there. While the person who took their order started working the coffee machine, it took her or anyone else in the kitchen 8 minutes to even acknowledge we were at the counter, which was why I hesitated to go back! In all, over 30 minutes to get a few bakery items and a breakfast sandwich. Meanwhile 3-4 other ladies milling around in the kitchen doing something, some of the time couldn’t be bothered with customer service while the soul person working the counter is up to all kinds of gyrations on the coffee machine and customers just stand in line like Russians in the ‘80’s waiting for bread, and stand, and stand, and stand…it might be 5 years before I go back again, and I’ll regret it again. At least the service is consistent since I first visited in about 2008 or 2010? I liked the comment: capitalists pricing and a Marxist experience! Nailed it with far fewer words. My hope is that management will be responsive to my review and create a much more efficient customer service experience. I’ll be back late August to try the Flying Squirrel again and if they respond I would love to update my review!!"

"ASK TO SEE YOUR BILL! We had a nice dinner, and when we were ready for the check, the owner 60s, dry personality, potbellied) came to the table and said 287 do you want to split it 3 ways? . In the bustle of handing him our 3 credit cards, we didn 't really focus on the amount, and he never handed us a bill. Only after we paid did we start doing the math in our head and realized it was way too high. One of my friends went back to him and asked if there was a mistake, and he looked over the bill on his tablet and said no, it all adds up . We thought this was odd, so my other friend went back for a second time and asked for a printed copy of the bill. The owner lied and) said it wasn 't possible to retrieve it. Luckily, my friend is an experienced waiter and he knew that was a lie. The owner kept trying to come up with excuses as to why it was too late to review the bill, and finally my friend got a menu and added up all the items we ordered, and we discovered that we were overcharged by over $150. The owner finally handed us back $150 in cash, but with no apology. If you decide to eat at this restaurant, ask for a copy of the bill, or at least do the math in your head before you turn over your credit cards like we foolishly did. If he had made an honest mistake I wouldn 't be writing this review, but it appears he was intentionally trying to steal from customers. : This was disappointing because I had heard such good things about this restaurant. Perhaps it 's nicer when the owner is not waiting tables and trying to steal your money. I saw a similar review about this owner overcharging from back in 2017, so unfortunately it seems this is not anything new for this owner, and not a one off experience. Seems he 's been honing his thievery skills for several years. But we got our money back, so all 's well that ends well."
