"I’ve been coming to Talkeetna since 2008, and I’ve been to The Flying Squirrel about 4-5 times and each time I go, it takes me years to go back, kind of like I hear about women getting pregnant after the memory of child birth wears off!??The bakery goods are always yummy and the items you order are usually pretty good if they get the order right. However, I saw a few comments in other reviews of good service which blows my mind…this, along with the high prices is why don’t come often. We have a cabin in Talkeetna and I come 5-6 times a summer and yet I’ve been 4-5 times since 2008!This time it was about 10:30am and I we were starting a hike late so I thought it wouldn’t be busy so we would be in and out quick! Not so fast my friend! We had one couple in line in front of us who finished ordering about 30 seconds after we got there. While the person who took their order started working the coffee machine, it took her or anyone else in the kitchen 8 minutes to even acknowledge we were at the counter, which was why I hesitated to go back! In all, over 30 minutes to get a few bakery items and a breakfast sandwich. Meanwhile 3-4 other ladies milling around in the kitchen doing something, some of the time couldn’t be bothered with customer service while the soul person working the counter is up to all kinds of gyrations on the coffee machine and customers just stand in line like Russians in the ‘80’s waiting for bread, and stand, and stand, and stand…it might be 5 years before I go back again, and I’ll regret it again. At least the service is consistent since I first visited in about 2008 or 2010? I liked the comment: capitalists pricing and a Marxist experience! Nailed it with far fewer words. My hope is that management will be responsive to my review and create a much more efficient customer service experience. I’ll be back late August to try the Flying Squirrel again and if they respond I would love to update my review!!"

Our order taker was slow, confused, inefficient, hopefully he'll get it. The coffee was good, the breakfast sandwiches and bread even better. I see why the place gets great reviews.

There pizza was the best I’ve ever had. My mom and I stopped in for supper while staying nearby. We were shocked by our pizza and also there desserts. I highly recommend this place.

The food took longer than what I would consider normal but was delicious still! This place is adorable. They have great coffee and breakfast sandwiches. They have a cute seating area.

Read all the great reviews and decided to give them a try. Not a huge menu of breakfast items but enough to make a choice. The hot cereal was good the french toast was wonderful! Got some delicious cookies for later in the day...as well. View menu

Great little bakery-cafe. It's not a touristy as those located in town. The layed back environment was a pleasant way to start the day. The food was also a treat. I felt they had a unique selection that includes pizzas, sandwich, beer, and wine. It's not fast.

Great bakery cafe. Stopped in for morning muffin snacks for the road hard to choose among so many choices that all looked delicious. Sitting available inside; menu with many choices including both vegan and vegetarian options (and some for meat eaters). Locally sourced ingredients.

Went to check this place out one morning and picked up various goodies. So impressed with what we had that we went back for pizza dinner (and grabbed more goodies to take with us). Yeah, service can be slow but it's Alaska and we've found everything moves at a slower pace. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Talkeetna View menu

Great place for baked goods and wood fire pizza. The rhubarb-ade on tap was tart and delicious. We got the Mediterranean pizza and the pear and bri pizza. Both were excellent. I just wish the pear pizza had more bri, some bites were a little dry. The rhubarb cake made for a yummy dessert, if you like rhubarb I would recommend getting the cake.

"Let me start by stating that I don’t do online reviews, I’m way to lazy. But after my last experience here, I felt absolutely compelled to make sure this place got the recognition it deserves. My girlfriend and I have gone there twice in the past week. Our first time there, we had such a pleasant time. The food was fantastic! We had gotten the braised beef soup, pork soup dumplings, tofu puff and glass noodle soup, then the pork and veggie steam buns. At first I was apprehensive about the cost, roughly 10-14 per dish. But after we got our food, my worries diminished. Everything was absolutely delicious! The braised beef soup was the definition of “to die for”. Enough so that it brought us back again at the end of the week! This time was not as good, it was phenomenally better!!! My girlfriend and I both got the braised beef soup this time, after last time being so incredible. We were not disappointed! It was heavenly! Though the food was the reason we came back, our server is the inspiration for this review(not to belittle the other employees . Our servers name was Jun. Within moments of being seated, he arrived with a smile on his face and took our drink order. After returning with our drinks, he helped us make our minds up on what side to order. This time, in tandem with the two braised beef soups, we got the pork chop fried rice(w/ white rice). The pork chop fried rice was ridiculously good. We could not get over how delicious the pork chop was! Then he made some small talk and made us feel more immersed in our dinning experience. We were enjoying not only the food, but the environment almost as much. He wasn’t overly talkative, but just the right amount to make our experience feel important, and unique. Nearing the end of our second trip there, we found ourselves not just talking about how outrageously good our food was, but how friendly and attentive our server was. From the fast meet and greet, to the way he always made sure our drinks were full, without us asking. Which seems like an easy task, but in combination with the huge amount of customers, and my ability to consume copious amounts of beverages(almost to an embarrassing extent), it’s often a servers nightmare. If there’s anything that can ruin an experience, it’s constantly having to wait for a drink refill(which for me seems to always be a problem), but not once was I left with that frustration. At the end of it all, it left us with such a strong positive impression, that we feel that Din Tai Fung will easily be one of our regular go to destinations for amazing food, and exceptional customer service. Thank you so much Jun for the incredible experience, you truly made our night memorable! We will be returning soon!!!"
