"We wanted to take my mother-in-law and niece to a nice place for dinner, without having to go downtown, as there is a lot of construction going on in Montreal right now, slowing things down even more than normal. Le Bordelais was recommended to my mother-in-law by some of her friends, so we thought we would give it a try. The place was rather busy, and the hostess was very friendly. Our table closely abutted another table, with not much space in between to allow serving staff to go between the tables. There is a wide variety of menu items, including a 'special' menu, which included soup or salad and your entrée. (No, they do not call it a prix fixe menu.) My mother-in-law opted for scampi, and asked for no vegetables, no rice, but to have fries instead. Her dish did arrive with no vegetables, but included the rice and a small serving of french fries (additional $2.95). They are billed as homemade french fries, but they looked over cooked as they were a very dark brown colour. My husband had a surf and turf, which was a 5 ounce filet, 2 shrimp and 2 langoustines. Our niece had a braised beef dish and I opted for halibut with a Mediterranean salsa. My halibut was OK, however, it was served on a bed of lukewarm mashed potatoes. The soup of the day, was edible, an over cooked stracciatella. I would never go back to this restaurant, and it may be worth the drive downtown next time."
