"Having ordered from them over the years, I've noticed significant changes in both their food and prices. Their prices have continually increased to the point where takeout feels a bit overpriced, especially considering their lower overhead costs as a takeout-only place.
In the past, the food justified the cost, with adequate portion sizes and nice packaging for takeout. Nowadays, however, the food comes in plastic or Styrofoam containers placed in a plastic bag, which doesn’t keep the food hot like traditional paper or cardboard containers. Moreover, the serving sizes seem to have shrunk. While we used to make two meals from our orders, that’s no longer the case—even though we find ourselves eating less these days.
The quality and taste of the food, which once made it worth the price, have also declined. Dishes like Moo Goo Gai Pan now have an unappealing, congealed appearance and a slimy texture, and they taste overly salty due to excessive cornstarch. The portion of chicken in the $12 serving is disappointingly small.
Similarly, the Dragon and Phoenix dish ($15.95), comprising half General Tso’s Chicken and half jumbo shrimp with vegetables in a white sauce, features a sauce that is just as congealed and overly salty as the Moo Goo. The vegetables have become limp and unappetizing. The dumplings in the Won Ton Soup seem smaller than before, with very little filling, and the egg rolls are now only half their original size, with a bland filling.
We’ve also stopped ordering the Crab Rangoon as they are often served lukewarm and soft due to being packed in Styrofoam. The same goes for the Fried Sweet Donuts. Our last two orders of both items were burnt and cold, which is simply unacceptable. I cannot believe they allowed food to leave the kitchen in such a state!
It is with a heavy heart that I must say I can no longer recommend Beijing Garden, and now I’ll need to search for a new place to enjoy Chinese cuisine."
