"This morning, on November 20th, I received an email from my bank stating that my account was overdrawn, followed by another email indicating that my transaction had been updated to include a tip, raising the total to $26.06. When I contacted the restaurant to explain the situation, I eventually spoke with Jen, the manager. She informed me that whoever signed the receipt had added $2 to the tip line. I asked the person who signed if they had done that, and they replied no. I suspected they would say no because we share this account and they knew the balance before I placed the order. Jen mentioned that the handwriting looked similar, but she would refund the $2.
I told her about a similar experience I had with a restaurant in McKees Rocks, where they discovered that the delivery driver had been filling in tips. I suggested they keep the extra $2, as they obviously needed it more than I did. While I could dispute the entire transaction with my bank, I feel that losing my business and that of my friends and family is punishment enough. It's just $2, and I doubt it will affect them much, but we stand by our principles."
