"This was such a pleasant experience! We enjoyed a date day at the park and were just getting hungry in the afternoon. We opted for the cafe after we saw their posted menu with a burnt ends mac and cheese. So we went for the mac and cheese and they let us combine the jalapeños from the other option with it so good! What really knocked our socks off was the lentil shawarma. The lentils were so flavorful and the whole dish was well balanced. We topped it all off with two of St. Steve's farm crafted sodas. Small batch crafted sodas are a big thing with us. A ginger and an elderflower soda were just the ticket here. If you make it out to the Meijer gardens, definitely include the cafe in your stop!"

The pizza is below average, and they have ceased answering their phones for taking orders or updating customers on their daily specials.

An unexpectedly good food respite from the rigors of striking the Meijer Gardens, the café boasts a mean brisket burnt ends macaroni and cheese! So good we went back for another! The pizza was tasty too, as was the coffee. Free refills on the sodas. Chighouli blown glass adorns the indoor café, be the outdoor patio ought not be missed on nice days. View menu

Similar to the Gardens, the Balk Cafe didn't quite work for our kids. The pizza had a peculiar, sawdust-like texture, the mac and cheese was heavily flavored with smoked gouda, and even the PB&J felt a bit too adventurous. However, the sandwiches and salads for adults were quite good. While I wouldn't choose this place specifically for the food, I've certainly encountered worse options at various museum cafes.

I regret not coming here before, we were visiting the garden and decided to eat our lunch there and being a vegetarian family it’s difficult to find options forget about the taste but but surprisingly I had awesome lunch in a very long time.We ordered everything from vegetarian/vegan menu and they were delicious , satisfying even simple jalapeño Mac n cheese tasted good .I am wondering why there are no reviews, our friend ordered tuna sandwich and he liked that tooThanks Balk cafe

The dining area is spacious, and there's outdoor seating available for warmer days. A stunning Chihuly glass sculpture hangs from the ceiling, adding visual appeal to the space. The food was delicious, and I appreciated that the halloumi and hummus bowl came with pita crackers. The hummus was seasoned with curry, which I found flavorful. The menu also features sandwiches, soups, tasty mac and cheese, and kid-friendly options. We've had the mac and cheese before, and it was wonderfully cheesy. If you're at Meijer Gardens around lunchtime, I highly recommend visiting the cafe. It’s undoubtedly the best quality and most delicious dining option I've encountered in a place like this. "Littlebird was our date-night restaurant on a getaway weekend trip to Grand Rapids and it was a fabulous experience! They sat us at the adorable table right next to the window for some excellent people-watching, served us promptly and kindly throughout the entire meal, and found unique ways to make the meal special and memorable. We ordered several drinks while we were there, most notably a classic daiquiri with Clarin that was a delicious and challenging cocktail. All the cocktails were carefully selected, well crafted, and highlighted the best of a spirit or seasonal ingredient. The food was also spectacular, of course. We ordered a Peach Summer Salad that was dressed in hot honey that was decadent to eat along with the Blooming Mushroom, Smash burger, and a Salmon dish. Each dish was well portioned, carefully seasoned, and thoughtful. We were also happy to receive feedback on our menu choices when ordering to ensure everything worked well together. Of note, it was clear that the meal was going a little longer than usual. However, the bar staff really showed up and struck up conversation with us about rum and rum cocktails that was a lot of fun. They made us feel welcome and we felt that they were happy that we were enjoying our meal at their place. Altogether, this was a really fun and tasty meal that was also really well priced for the experience and quality that they deliver. We will certainly be back as there are many more dishes (and daiquiris) that I want to try!"
