"In many ways Chawlas 2 resembles the ubiquitous NYC Indian restaurant small storefront, clean somewhat austere tables and chairs and bright themed wall paintings. But don 't be fooled it 's a culinary gem. My daughter and I were celebrating her birthday and being adventurous foodies we were eager to try this new (couple of months old) restaurant that was getting good reviews. Their specialty is Northern Indian which differs from Southern Indian cuisine, like Northern Italian differs from Southern but they are equally adept at the both. As I like to do, I put myself at the mercy of the wait staff to select what they feel are the best dishes (medium heat) (the Indian version of omekasse) and I was taken aback by the choices. The Fish Irani appitizer was a delight mouth size morsels of white fish well seasoned and lightly spiced. Next was their signature dish: Cream Chicken which was not what I expected and I used the naan to clean the the bowl. Next we had a lamb vindaloo which was a great contrast to the lighter fish and chicken dishes similar to following a bottle of white with a bottle of red. The lamb was subtle and flavorful working in concert with the sauce, heat and spice which was a rare treat and I realized I was tasting this dish for the first time. For the veg. we were served the okra in onion which was a delicious balance of flavors and textures. By now we were in a food coma but undeterred, ended the meal with a delicious fried mild desert. I 've been to many of the named and unnamed Indian restaurants in NY and elsewhere and can say that this was the most flavorful and well prepared series of dishes I have had to date."

Good was great. Restaurant still waiting for its liquor license. That did not take away from the great food. View menu

The authentic Indian food here is fantastic, and the paneer pasanda is my favorite. The breads are made to perfection.

I was told the restuarant is new opened about 4 months ago. The food here is more authentic than other Indian restaurants. Yhe spice level is on the mild side. Their breads are the best straight off the oven. View menu

The restaurant offers excellent authentic Indian cuisine. However, the lighting is a bit too bright for a romantic dinner. That said, I would definitely return for the food. The saag was especially impressive and one of the best I've had in the city.

Wait staff is very interested in making sure everything is pleasing to you. The food is good whatever you choose so go thru the menu as I do. Make sure you tell them whether you want it hot, medium or spicy. You won't be sorry you chose this restaurant.

"We went to Bread N Wine on a early Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were greeted and seated by the servers who were attentive. The food was okay the bread was really soft and fresh. My partner got the French Lentil Soup, Spinach and Tomato Egg Bake andI got the French onion soup, egg omelette with spicy tomato avocado and onions. I wasn 't happy with my omelette because thespicy just meant it was covered in hot sauce within. For beverages, we got chai lattes (we later found out it wasn 't tea basedbut rather coffee) and we had the option of oat milk, almond milk or regular milk. In terms of our overall experience we feltby the end too many things were steering the experience south; the worst was when we were accused of using counterfeit money topay for the tip. There was no special marker used to prove that the money was counterfeit or technology to back up this claim. That experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth as we left embarrassed by that claim, kind of shook from that, we stilladded the tip to our credit card 18%. As we walked out and talked about how weird that was, the owner of the business nextdoor overheard us and asked to see the $20 bill he showed us that our money was real and validated what we knew, that themoney wasn 't counterfeit. When we went back into Bread N Wine to discuss this there was no apology, just well, it felt thatway , shrug. It left a terrible feeling. We would not go back after that, this is not how you treat customers from start tofinish, hence the 2 star review."
