"I was at Chilam Balam with a large group (about 14) for a 'Friendsgiving ' last Friday night and they were incredible. They suggested the 'chef 's menu ' where they brought out appropriate portions of several appetizers and entrees, paced out beautifully throughout the evening. The staff was so kind and welcoming, they made us feel like we were dinner guests in their homes! The food was sooooooo delicious and I 'd recommend going with the 'chef 's menu ' to get a flair of all the highlights!Vegetarian options: We had vegetarians, dairy-free, and gluten-free folks with us and the team was able to accommodate all of it, even through the 'chef 's menu ' experience.Dietary restrictions: We had vegetarians, dairy-free, and gluten-free folks with us and the team was able to accommodate all of it, even through the 'chef 's menu ' experience."

The food was amazing. Shareable plates that are great for the whole table. Small restaurant with just a few tables, so make a reservation. Just so good! Drinks were good too.

BYOB rules are a bit strict , you have to sit and order food before they open your drinks, but food is delicious ..cash or Venmo only and there can be a wait, $10 per person Venmo charge to make a reservation.

Absolutely incredible experience. I've been here with my fiance a handful of times, and it's always amazing. Luis is a fabulous server and host, and Soraya in the kitchen is incredible. Truly a unique but special experience every time we go, and we can't wait to see what their future holds with the Michelin nod!

They require you to get way more food then you need (to make the bill more expensive) they charge 20$ for JUICE to make a drink with the byob policy. We were so extremely disappointed. The owner is so unbelievably disrespectful and rude. We were so excited to experience this restaurant and we’re so dissatisfied with the attitude of the staff. DO NOT RECOMMEND View menu

At the suggestion of our server, we had the chef’s selection—a wonderful array of appetizers and entrees, each better than the last. To be honest, everything was delicious, well seasoned and attractively plated, so you probably can’t go wrong with any of the choices. The space is small, the noise level is a bit loud, and they keep the tables turning on weekends. You have to Venmo a deposit to make a reservation, but the food and experience are well worth it. BYOB.

Chilam Balam is like home to me. Ever since I started coming here I couldn't stop! The staff are always welcoming and friendly, while serving up some of the BEST twist on Mexican food, in a exclusive type environment. I couldn't recommend them more. There is a reason they have been on the Michelin Guide year after year. Best spot in the city!! (My recent order Fresh ceviche, chicken flautas, roasted rack of lamb juicy flank steak, and make sure you ORDER THE HONEY PASILLA PORK RIBS!! Thank you!!

I've been to Chilam Balam a handful of times, and they never disappoint! It's always a treat to try their new dishes from the rotating seasonal menu, while enjoying the mainstays like the brussels sprouts (the best brussels sprouts in town). I have to mention the new pork belly dish, which has such a delightful balance of textures and flavors. Also gotta shout out Soraya and Luis for their kind and quick service. They've been awarded the Bib Gourmand by Michelin every year for the past decade with the consistently delicious food, warm atmosphere, and attentive service, it is so incredibly deserved. The ambiance of Chilam Balam is snug and cozy in an underground space. The food is outstanding we enjoyed the wild mushrooms, the roasted Brussels sprouts, and my personal highlight was the Roasted Pork Belly with a perfectly crispy texture.I did find the pricing slightly higher considering the portion sizes, despite the high quality of the dishes. Also, the server suggested ordering two dishes per person, and they preferred that we ordered all the dishes at once while we would have preferred to pace out after ordering appetizers. Note that for our group of four, five dishes ended up being just the right amount of food.

I have been a Chilam Balam evangelist for a long time but now won’t be coming back. Highly irritable and testy staff. Unfortunately, it’s not a singular experience for patrons, as evidenced by nearly every sub 5 star review having to do with an off putting encounter with the owner, not the quality of the food. I actually love the food but would rather spend my at an establishment run by professionals. Sadly, I’m anticipating a reply comment peddling misinformation to excuse their behavior as I’ve seen them bold face lie on multiple reviews. Just check out their responses to every critical review it’s weirdly all deflection and reminds me of an angry 13 year old on Twitter. Google “Chilam Bal...

"Tempesta is arguably one of the best sandwich shops in the city. They make a lot of their meats in house and use high quality ingredients so you know you’re getting the good stuff. Not only can you get a great sandwich, you can purchase most of their meats to go as well as other small artisanal grocery items. I have tried almost every sandwich they have on the menu but my top two choices would be the #1 The Dante and the #2 Yo! Vincenzo! The Dante is their version of a classic Italian sandwich but a bit on the spicier side. The Yo Vincenzo is a chicken parm and I personally think it’s the best chicken parm sandwich in the city. The chicken is perfectly crispy, and they use just the right amount of sauce where it doesn’t get soggy. Both of these sandwiches come on their fresh baguette which helps set them apart from other sandwich spots in Chicago just because of how good it is. The B Franklin is also a great option, and if you’re starving get the Wagyu Pastrami but be warned it is a very heavy sandwich because of that Wagyu. The last pro tip I’ll add in here is order your sandwich ahead of time if you’re doing takeout. This is a very popular spot and is always busy during the lunch rush so if you wait to order until you arrive you may need to wait for 10-15 minutes. That should speak to how good this place is because it’s in such high demand, so if you’re in Chicago make sure you stop in!"
