"I've lived in Highland Park long enough to remember this place being called Carrows and the experience being okay for the most part.Fast forward years later, Coco's came to be and although my experience here has varied, until recently the restaurant needs a lot of help in various areas. The Service: This is either a hit or a miss for most people. Depending on the day of the week, you'll get services where they are constantly checking in on you, fill your water up without asking and your food order will come exactly as it should.I've had the misfortune of coming in twice so far in this new 2022 year and both times the waitress was lacking in service, she was not attentive, got a few things wrong with our order and when I complained that there was a hair in my Coco's Turkey Sandwich platter, she didn't bother to apologize or offer a discount for my meal. Not only that but it took her another 15-20 mins to get the sandwich back to me.The Food: The food, the same as the service, can be a hit or miss. I'm not claiming that Coco's NEEDS to be top quality food but at the very least they can show (the cooks at least) that there's some sort of care for the food. Both times I've been here in the year the bread for my turkey sandwich was burnt, I found a hair in my platter, bread for a burger was burned as well and the amount of fries that we were given was laughably the equivalent of a kid's meal at McDonalds.Going back to the subject of the found hair, it's not a good look when the waitress openly (loudly) expresses that there was a hair in it, the cook then asked if it really was his hair, almost as if doubting what the claim was.Management : The manager on-hand is okay for the most part. However, just like other reviewers on here have pointed out, the managers stay out of the way and if you have a complaint or anything like that and the manager isn't around, good luck trying to find someone who will listen to you rant about the issue."

Very busy and not many waitresses. Took a long time to get anything. Came for the Harvest pie which was delicious!

Angela is a fantastic server! The brioche French toast is delicious. However, I made a mistake ordering the prime rib at a place like Denny's. It was overcooked, bland, tough, and chewy.

When I went to eat, it was pretty crowded, but my party still came fast. it took a while to get our food, but it was full so I had nothing to do with it. the quality of eating was good and I want to go back to taste the cake. View menu

The staff is friendly and pleasant, but the food is disappointing. The portions are small, the flavors are bland, and the prices are high for the quality. It's decent in a pinch, but there are superior dining options available.

The restaurant has limited options for food. Although one would expect them to offer meat stew, they do not. Additionally, they no longer provide complimentary broth or salad with the meal. In my opinion, the portion size does not justify the high price.

Every time I come here it reminds me of a Small Town Diner unfortunately there isn't much foot traffic. and it doesn't get very busy unless it's the weekend but the food is always amazing and so is the service no matter what I'm surprised that there's notmore people coming here it's very affordable

Pies Police combine for a Classic! Coco's bakes the pies, natch, but the LAPD lords over the scene from the Los Angeles Police Museum directly across the street. The 1925 cop shop originally belonged to Highland Park, but it's served as a set piece foreverything from MacGiver to The Rockford Files. It's a marvelous edifice, and it certainly makes for a classic backdrop whileyou're supping on Coco's classic grub pies otherwise!

"I went to Froggy's the other night with a friend for a midweek dinner. It is definitely not the first time I've been there, but it may be the last. First of all, The servers were really in the weeds and seemed to be really understaffed. I understand that it gets busy, and things get delayed. Nothing really got delayed, but we were looking for them a lot for water and stuff. Secondly, but most importantly, was the food. The oysters we had were good and fresh. However, their escargot variation was weird, especially with the peapods. They were out of anchovies for the ceaser salad, but after tasting it, I don't think they use anchovies in the dressing. The flavor of their dressing along with the raw shaved beet was not good. Our main courses were just not good. I ordered the Bouillabaisse and it was terrible. It was like a weird tomato-based sauce with over cooked proteins. The lobster has no meat in the tail, and their was no lobster meat added, as the server described in the special. Not only the weird sauce, no toast points or Rouille... They served it with mashed potatoes and vegetables that stuck out like a sore thumb. On top of that all, my mussels weren't de-bearded... I couldn't eat them. The desserts weren't any better. We had the passion fruit mousse and the poached pear. The mousse had a strange texture, like they didn't allow whatever gelatin mixture they used to set up correctly. The taste was ok, but got drowned out by the raspberry sauce. On the poached pear, where is the pear? All I tasted was poaching liquid and that's it. For the price and quality, there are tons of better French options around the area. I guess if I feel like normal french cuisine, that a true Frenchman would be proud of, I will across the tracks and down the street to the other French option. Honestly, I think they are way passed their prime and need to revamp everything before I come in again, especially their menu and quality. "I work not too far from this cafe and have been there several times. The teas and coffees are great--I especially have liked the lattes I 've had--and I 've also taken advantage of the packaged teas and small gift shop when I 've needed to give a gift. The quality of the food, though, has been inconsistent--sometimes good and sometimes rather disappointing. Memorably, I had one dish that was garnished with pickled daikon that would have made a nice garnish if sliced very thin--but it was served in huge chunks that were so strongly flavored as to be inedible. On the other hand, I have enjoyed the grilled 'cheese ' with tomato soup. Frequently, the restaurant is advertising for staff so I really think that the inconsistency is likely caused by the high turnover almost every place is having right now. So it 's the reason I 'm only giving three stars, but I also plan to keep going there, so it 's not a dealbreaker for me. If you want something sweet, I highly recommend the sliced layer cake, which comes from Pie Pie My Darling. The available cake flavor changes monthly. This restaurant also has entertainment fairly regularly (including sometimes in the evening, when they 're otherwise not usually open), and hosts some community activities. As some others have noted, the prices are a little high, but I think that they are not out of line for the area. Most of the seating is indoors, with a few sidewalk tables outside in nicer weather. Parking is relatively easy--there is a small parking lot for the strip mall, plus street parking and a small municipal lot across the street. From the Highland Park Metra station, the walk is an easy few blocks. Updated from previous review on 2022-08-14"
