"The atmosphere at Congaree And Penn Grocery was fantastic. The scenic views, the walk through the farm, and the enjoyable drinks all made for a very pleasant outing. The food was good but didn’t quite stand out. Although beautifully presented, the charcuterie board felt a bit pricey for what it offered, with the exception of the crispy bread, which was excellent. The lamb was somewhat tough—understandable since lamb can be difficult to cook perfectly and is often slightly overdone. When done right, it’s truly delicious. The gnocchi was decent too, though a bit expensive for its portion. However, dipping the gnocchi in the lamb sauce was absolutely wonderful—an incredible pairing! Overall, the visit was worthwhile, and with the menu changing seasonally, there’s potential for even better dishes to come."

One of my favorite retreats when I need a break from the city is Congaree Penn. The dining experience is exceptional, and the farm and its surroundings are stunning! It's always worth making the trip. Make sure to take a walk around the area before or after your meal. They offered guided flower picking during the summer, which was a fantastic experience. I can't wait for the wildflower fields to start blooming!

We had a fantastic date night! Before dinner, we took a leisurely walk through the farm with our drinks—beer and cider—appreciating the serene and beautiful surroundings. The ciders were excellent, featuring a wonderful variety crafted in-house. Dinner was outstanding! We started with the hummus plate and cornbread. My husband chose the shrimp and grits, and I went for the Black Eyed Pea Tempe. I highly recommend this spot; it was truly an unforgettable experience!

Our group of ten had an amazing time, despite the rain! The covered outdoor area was very comfortable and laid-back. The food we ordered was outstanding, though our server was just average. We were too stuffed to try dessert, but the choices looked very tempting. The sunset cruise was a lot of fun, and we even made stops to take photos along the way. I suggest bringing bug spray, although the bugs were not too much of a problem. Overall, I highly recommend Congaree and Penn Grocery for an enjoyable night out! View menu

Ambiance was incredible. The view, the stroll through the farm and decent drinks were all very pleasant. Food was good, not great. It presented well, but the charcuterie board was underwhelming for the price, except the crispy bread. Lamb was a bittough. I know it’s a difficult meat to cook and it’s not uncommon for this to be slightly over cooked. When a chef gets itright, chefs kiss*. Gnocchi was okay too. Expensive for what it was. But!!! Dipping these in the sauce from the lamb, wasabsolutely exquisitely divine. This combo had me dying, it was so good. Overall, worth the visit. And the menu changesseasonally, so better options coming up perhaps.

Don't be fooled into thinking this is merely an outdoor restaurant. Arrive early and take the time to enjoy the beautiful outdoor farm and park area! If I had known in advance, I would have brought some wine for a picnic there before our reservation. The $5 fee for access to the farm and park grounds is worth it if you have some extra time, especially since there are chairs and tables to relax at. The flight of local ciders was delightful, and the food offered a sophisticated twist compared to the usual fare. However, I would caution that the menu might not be the best fit for young children, so keep that in mind—this isn't exactly a budget-friendly dining option.

"Had Foie Gras and Escargots for starters. Foie Gras was done to perfection with a little sweetness in the currant topping to blend wonderfully with the rich creaminess of the foie gras itself. The escargots were perfect. The light cream sauce with just the right whisper of garlic and fine strips of spinach richly supported the tender escargots. My entree was the bone in pork chop. It was superbly prepared, a nice light crispness on the outside and todiefor lush, tender, juicy meat on the inside. The apple compote accompaniment added a perfect sweet foil to the meaty toast of the chop.Perfectly done.Other entrees at the table included braised ox tail and the scallops. Both were expertly prepared. The ox tail was rich with a wonderful sauce that brought out the best of both meat and bone marrow, very satisfying. The white acre peas and fried shishito peppers that rounded out the dish were the right balance to the richness of the ox tail and were cooked to perfection. The scallops served atop creamed corn and english peas were also a delight. The scallops were good size, but extremely delicate and tender and the accompanying corn and peas outstanding. the pickled shallots were a real surprise adding a very inspired and charming savory element to the dish. Outstanding all around! While one might think it couldn't get better than this it did. Our service was provided by Beau, maybe BOW for his Bowtiewho was both our waiter and the sommelier for Matthews. His professional attentiveness and conversation was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the table. Bravo Beau!"

"Black Sheep is a great restaurant. The service is almost always excellent and this trip was no exception. Our waiter was great, personable and prompt. We had multiple happy hour cocktails which were of high quality and delivered quickly. The happy hour drinks are a great value. The Dusty Boot is my favorite and I hope it never leaves the menu. The food was good and tasty. The kitchen at Black Sheep is one of the best in Jacksonville. However the price for the food, even for the happy hour items, is getting out of hand. I have visited Black Sheep since they have opened. I’ve watched the pricing on the food increase over time and several items are now 30-50% higher than they were several years ago. Vegetable sides for dinner are now $7-8 dollars. A large salad is $14. These items used to be $5 and $10. The cheapest sliders for happy hour are $9. There is less meat on all three sliders combined than would be in a single small sandwich. The cheapest main for dinner is a $15 burger WITHOUT CHEESE. A slice of cheese is $1. One. Dollar. So $16 for a cheese burger and some shoestring fries. I know it’s grass fed beef but still! It’s obscene. If someone at Black Sheep is reading this, please, work on that menu and the pricing. You have slowly priced a loyal customer out of visiting your restaurant. You have good food but the value is no longer there. You have competition now, even in your own neighborhood. I love your restaurant and want you to win me back."
