"Wednesday and Thursday Doug offers bbq chicken and ribs. I had the chicken with potato salad and his awesome jambalaya plus an added sausage link. The sausage was juicy and smoky cooked perfectly. I've been trying to find a decent bbq restaurant in Jefferson, Jasper and Hardin counties for the past 30+ years but had given up. I was stunned to find perfect bbq chicken at Doug Nelson's. Finally someone who knows how to bbq chicken that is moist and not over cooked with a great smoky taste and nice bbq sauce too. And the potato salad was homemade just like I like it. Not the bulk store bought tasteless weird salad everyone else serve. Trust me. You will be just as pleased as I was and the ladies there serving are awesome, too!! Great service!!"

Love the food. Eat here often. Food is always hot and good. Service is ok. It's a southern atmosphere, country even.

Delicious donuts and tacos! Not to mention the service was incredible! The gentleman behind the counter was incredibly kind and polite! Definitely stopping by next time we drive through!

Authentic BBQ, clean restrooms. Got the BBQ beef and link with some coke slaw and jambalaya. The sauce was just right not too sweet, with just the right amount of spice. Definitely worth the stop! View menu

This local bbq joint is right off Hwy 124 near the exit off i-10 at Loves/Arby's. The food was great, with huge portions. It seems like one of those local gems and it's a great stop on a road trip! Nice clean space with very friendly staff.

Had the BarBQue Rib plate. Looks like the ribs were done on the oven and were smoked. Also had the pinto beans and jambalaya rice. The beans were good but the jambalaya rice seemed more like dirty rice which was ok. Overall the place is like home cooking and the staff is nice and the food was good. It's an ok place to eat at. Wouldn't go way out of my way just to eat here though. View menu

This is a great little lunch only place with a terrible location and a booming business. The menu, while limited, is excellent. You can usually find some barbecue or some fried shrimp and catfish. Order at the counter and have a seat. Don't forget to grab your beverage. The café is only open from 10 to 2 Monday through Friday, so you have a limited opportunity to get there, but it's definitely worth the effort.

This is a great little restaurant! The service and food were excellent! Looks like it used to be an old mom and pop grocery store. Told them it was our first time eating there and a sweet lady (who I assume was Doug 's wife) brought us samples of their steak and fish fry seasonings. Food was served hot, fresh, and fast. Wife loved the double bacon burger and potato salad. The sliced bbq sandwich was great too. The bbq sauce was good, not too hot, not too sweet. We enjoy the out of the way restaurants, so we loved the rustic decor and small town feel. It is out in the boonies , but not so far out as to be inconvenient. Overall, great place to eat!

"First visit. We go in and immediately notice the relaxed, leisure atmosphere and are welcomed and sitting as soon as we in. After we set ourselves,Britain, our server welcomes us immediately and takes our appetizer. We ordered the fried pickles and they came out, thin cut, but were hot and crispy and served with a big jalapeño ranch sauce that wasn't too hot, but had only the right amount of kick. For our meal I ordered the J Dub Double Burger and my wife had the Burger Salad, which we were both curious to see. The food comes in a contemporary fashion and looked great. My burger was big enough that I had to cut it with the knife that they delivered, and when I entered it, I was not prepared for a burger that was as perfect as this one. I know other places are seasoning their burgers and it is rare to find one that is so well seasoned. We are all used to french french frits with our burgers, but the burgers here come with potato wedges..Not the big, but in my opinion, those at J. Wilson's are just the right size and are served with the Jalapeño Ranch sauce and ketchup. The Burgersalat of my wife was a sight to see... it looked so good, I wish I had got one. It had the above perfectly seasoned ground beef, pickles, lettuce and cheese and dressing as well as the potato wedges around the side... I tried and it was great. Points for the one who thought this salad: All in all, our first visit will not be our last... and if you never tried, J. Wilsons, make sure you pay them a visit!"
