"I found El Agave in the Gaslamp Quarter on Father’s Day. I walked in and thought I’d died and gone to restaurant heaven. It’s gorgeously decorated, there’s nice ambient music playing in the background, and there are interesting Tequila bottle collections everywhere you turn. The service is great. We were quickly seated; and once seated, our waiter brought over chilled water and glasses. Soon after that, he brought out the fresh chips and salsas…yes, plural, as in three delicious salsas to choose from. We ordered, and our food didn’t take long. I am not a Tequila drinker, but the wine list is good. I found a nice Rebeiro. This was altogether unlike any other dining experience I’ve ever had, in a very good way. I didn’t want to leave. I’m telling y’all, this is my new favorite California restaurant."

Best tacos I've ever had! I tried the tacos al pastor, and they were absolutely delicious. The drinks were fantastic as well, and there was an impressive selection of tequila. Wow!

I had a fantastic and beautiful culinary experience at this restaurant. It's perfect for date nights, with delicious and flavorful dishes that go beyond the typical Mexican theme. I highly recommend this place for its excellent food quality.

One of the best Mexican restaurants I've experienced in California! The fresh ingredients, delicious salsa, and mouthwatering al pastor tacos are absolutely fantastic. Additionally, the impressive selection of tequilas and expertly crafted cocktails are definitely worth trying. View menu

The best Mexican food I’ve had in California. The food was incredible, perfectly seasoned and cooked. The margaritas were strong and flavorful. Our waiter was a younger man and very helpful and answered our questions about the menu. Atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Definitely 5/5

Nice environment, really cozy. I was in San Diego for an event and a local recommended to try the tequila flight. They explained the difference among the 3 types of tequila, they told us some interesting facts about the hundreds of bottles that they have. I didn't eat, but I bet the food would be awesome.

Loved this place! The bartender was fantastic, the drinks were delicious, the food was authentic and the service was excellent. Nothing to not like about it! They have over 250 brands 2500+ bottles of tequila! We had the Mexican mule, the blood orange margarita, the tamarindo margarita the hibiscus margarita and they were all superb! View menu

Despite me being in San Diego for 16 years I had never been here….what a mistake. It’s only three minutes away from the other Mexican restaurants in Old Town. However it has superior service and a higher quality of food. I will say it’s a little more expensive than traditional Mexican food but it’s NOT expensive and the ambiance and food more than make up for the additional cost.

My fav Mexican restaurant so far! I love love love it! Ambiance is on the point and also the food! It was my birthday dinner with group of friends. Our server was outstanding! The first time ever when I tell that I don’t like cilantro to a server in Mexican restaurant, I wasn’t judged by him. 10/10. Excellent service! Amazing food, ultimate tequila selection! I’d love to come back again.

"I adore this restaurant. Golden Hill is filled with many many quality eateries, and Counterpoint anchors the neighborhood with it's fun atmosphere and dedication to quality. They recently renovated and the new space is open, airy and provides a variety of seating options: bar seating, restaurant seating, and upper balcony (I use this as a quiet place to WFH during the week), and an outdoor patio. I'm partial to the biscuit and gravy for breakfast, but the brined chicken and waffles or breakfast hash always makes me smile and sends me unto the world with a better outlook on life and a doggie bag. When it's hot, delicious crunchy salads are on the lunch menu and the craft beers and unique slushy flavors change. Counterpoint takes the quality of food and libations seriously. The craft cocktails rotate as the bartenders are encouraged to explore and grow. The owner and team are always warm, welcoming and make sure you have a good experience. Did I mention they are DOG friendly? Definitely worth the trip up the hill from downtown if you're looking to wind down after an event or precharge and eat before a baseball game. I love to bring my friends for a snack (try the olive selection) and chat on a twilight night. Space heaters outside if you get cold. Fans inside if you get warm. Honestly if you live in or are visiting the 92102 area code you should go to Counterpoint: good food, really good cocktails, and great company. It is clear that this establishment cares about quality, cares about your comfort and loves if you have a good time."
