"This restaurant has potential, especially in our current pandemic-driven world that leans towards takeout. The chicken is very good—definitely among the top three in the city. I personally prefer Southern chicken and find Byrd Barrel to be quite comparable; however, this place might be slightly better because Byrd Barrel can be too salty at times. The tenders offered by the pound are a fantastic deal at $12 per pound, supposedly including two sauces. It’s a great bargain given the quality of the food. That said, there are several disappointing aspects. Previously, the restaurant had a wide variety of sauces, but now the tenders only come with ranch—allegedly two sauces per pound, but my last order only included one. The ranch is decent for dipping—light and tangy without being overly heavy—but losing those sauce options is certainly a step down. Moreover, offering just 2-3 tablespoons of sauce for 8-9 tenders feels insufficient. The mac and cheese is reasonably good; it doesn’t break new ground or showcase exceptional cooking techniques, but it's a solid choice. The greens are somewhat salty but generally acceptable. Unfortunately, the cornbread is extremely dry and not a good value—the portion is about 2.5 square inches for $2.50-$3, depending on how many sides you order. I was intrigued by the blueberry hand pie based on its online appearance, but it ended up being completely grease-soaked. While I don’t shy away from fried treats, this one was so oily it became translucent and tasted more of the frying fat than blueberry or pastry. To be fair, I should have considered that ordering a deep-fried dessert to-go wasn’t the best idea. I was hoping for an upgraded version of a typical store-bought or doughnut shop hand pie, but what I received was more akin to a greasy enchilada."
