"I have to say, my experience at this BBQ joint hasn’t improved since my last visit—if anything, it was a bit worse. My dad and I decided to give it another go, but I still walked away feeling just "meh." During my previous visit, the owner mentioned that their smoker was broken, but I was hoping for a better outcome this time around. Unfortunately, the pork tasted boiled, the brisket seemed baked, and while the ribs were decent, they were overcooked to the point of falling off the bone—something I consider a bit lazy in the BBQ world. We ordered the three-meat platter with ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, along with sides of beans and mac and cheese. Let’s dive into the details. The ribs were flavorful but definitely overdone. Curiously, they were also served cold along with the other meats, despite our early arrival. I understand that BBQ is usually served low and slow, but it felt like we were served yesterday’s leftovers. The pulled pork was the standout disappointment—it had absolutely no smoke flavor and tasted bland, as if I was eating an unseasoned piece of meat. It’s clear that this recipe needs a complete overhaul. On a more positive note, the brisket was decent. It was a bit too salty, and it lacked that sought-after smoke ring, but it was tender and edible with a touch of BBQ sauce. The mac and cheese, which I enjoyed during my last visit, didn’t impress me this time. It was just okay—an upgrade from Kraft but still lacking that gooey, delicious quality I expected. In fact, it was rather dry. As for the baked beans, they reminded me too much of Van Camp’s canned variety, just with added bits of pulled meat. They were okay but nothing to write home about. Overall, I can only give this place two stars. The food feels a bit overpriced and lacks the necessary flair. The sauces are great as I remember, but the BBQ itself really needs improvement. The seasoning was weak or completely missing, and there was hardly any smoke flavor in the meats. As I mentioned in my earlier review, I shouldn’t have to rely on sauce to make mediocre BBQ taste better. I apologize if my review comes off as harsh, but my intention is to provide constructive criticism. I genuinely want our local businesses to succeed."

Great smoked meats and decent choices of sauce . Their corn bread was delish but the Mac n cheese was really bland.

The sausage was the star of the show. Crispy casing...yum! Collards were well cooked but could have used more of a kick. It's a do over. They have garage type doors that were open so we felt like we were sitting outside. Note... Don't try to get here when their Utica Unicorns are playing baseball. We're making a point of leaving before the game is over. Luke was the bomb.

Tried this place for the first time. It was ok, I think we went on a off night. I had the nachos with pulled pork but they forgot the pork. When I told our server she made it right and brought me a bowl. My kids did not like any of the bbq sauces. My hubs had the sliders and he really liked them. He ordered a salad and it never came. We were pretty much the only people at the time eating. So in a nutshell it was ok not spectacular or terrible just ok.

First Off I am a BBQ snob from Kansas City and I have a high standard, but I try to keep an open mind. A friend gushed about this place and it is near my home so my wife and I had lunch their recently. The Ribs had good smoked flavor but a bit too much rub. The Cole Slaw was ok, but should have been colder. Liked the fries and their variety of sauces. My wife had the brisket sandwich. She liked it. I wished I could have tried it. You can learn a lot from how a place does their brisket. I am excited to go back and try the brisket for myself and other menu items. I am glad they are nearby. Cheers View menu

Its a great location and great look-and-feel on the first level. They have a small but solid draft selection and its always 100% Michigan beer. The wait staff were always friendly and attentive in my past experiences. This time much more standoffish. The food overall, i 've always gotten the Mac 'N Cheese with delicious smoked meats. For the past few years its been nothing but consistent awesomeness. This past time the Mac N Cheese was a let down. The cheese sauce seemed watered down. The meat wasnt as good. Their bbq sauces are always tasty. But overall I left with disappointment. I hope the quality can pick back up again.

Overall, service was good, veggies looked fresh, sauces were all above average, but the meats and their preparation were subpar. Maybe a good spot to grab a drink but I would avoid their smoked products. If you know how to smoke you're better off staying at home Had driven by this place dozens of times and it always looks like a great place to grab some lunch or dinner. Finally took the plunge in 6 Jan 2018 and was pretty disappointed. It would appear that their pit master was out on my visit as the meat had very little to no rub or smoky flavor. What it did have was grease and copious amounts of fat in the brisket and pulled pork. I completely understand that fat is useful when properly smo...

Decided to try for the first time after driving past it nearly everyday. The last time we tried was during a power outage so we were really looking forward to it. We went in for an early dinner on a Wednesday and were the only guests in the place which was actually really nice. The service was quick and attentive. Our server gave us all kinds of suggestions and was honest about what she liked and didn't like on the menu which was helpful. We started off with some Roasted Brussel Sprouts with bacon and caramelized onions. Delicious flavor! We also had a few drinks which were very fairly priced. We split the three meat Que platter with brisket, pulled chicken, and chicken wings. It came with b... View menu

Details: We rented the upstairs area of the restaurant for our wedding reception. The owner assured us that the entire upstairs would be exclusively for us and our guests, which was fantastic because it included a bar, a sound system, and a small dance area by the window. We sampled the food—it was mediocre, not terrible—and agreed on a price, signing the contract with the expectation that everything was set. We called a few days before to confirm, and everything seemed fine. On the day of the wedding, my husband and I arrived for the reception after taking family photos. As we went upstairs, the first thing we noticed was that there were regular non-customers sitting at tables directly on...

If you come on a random weekday night, don’t be alarmed by the lack of crowds. Downtown Utica struggles to draw in patrons, which is puzzling to me. While parking can be a hassle, Hogs Hollow has an adjacent parking lot and plenty of street parking. Perhaps their marketing could use some improvement; on non-weekend nights, the place might look completely empty. Still, I appreciate the quick seating and no wait for a drink. If you're a BBQ fan, you definitely have to try this place. While I wouldn't claim it's the best BBQ I've ever had, it's pretty impressive for Michigan. They serve all the usual pork and beef options, along with several chicken and even fish dishes. One of my favorites i...
