"Kalaveras is a fairly large, family owned/operated “chain” of restaurants throughout SoCal; you’ve probably seen one or two in your travels. It’s a “modern Mexican” restaurant in design and food offerings. The food at Kalaveras isn’t bad in fact, my girlfriend said their Albondigas Soup might be the best she’s ever had. However, it feels like Kalaveras tries too hard to be “fancy” and somewhat froo froo with their offerings, much in the same way as the Javier’s chain. In our opinion, Mexican food just needs to be freakin’ good it doesn’t need to get lost in fancy presentation. And that’s kind of the downside to Kalaveras. We ordered the soup, several Asada Tacos, and Taquitos Dorados (some chicken, some potato). The taquitos were okay but the dye colored tortilla wraps are off putting, and my girlfriend says it messes with the taste, which I agree with. My asada tacos were good and the presentation was great (dunno why the photo I took of that isn’t showing up in my images for this review when selecting which to upload weird), but the marinade used kinda dulled the taste for me. Kalaveras is an upscale, “hip” and “fancy” place and the prices reflect that, unfortunately. This is kinda a one and done situation unless there aren’t any other options nearby and you’re craving Mexican food. Like I said, it’s not BAD it’s just too fancy for its own good and the higher prices detract from what could be an amazing go to for Mexican cuisine. Restaurants often trip over themselves when trying to be something they’re not or shouldn’t be. A great Mexican place should be warm and welcoming, nicely decorated, and the flavor explosion of the food should be the focus, even if it’s a burrito lying on a plate with hot refried beans and rice swamping together into melted goodness. Food over fancy, in our opinion. Kalaveras is trying too hard to be fancy."

The food was decent. It was the brunch buffet. I'm sure the specialty plates are better because they'll cook to order. Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Enjoyed the vibe here. Decor reminds me of Tempo Cantina. Drinks were good, and nachos hit the spot. DJ was setting up, so I didn't get to see the vibes after 8 pm. Would come here again.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food and atmosphere were fantastic. I enjoyed a lunch meal, and the price per person was around $20–30. I would rate the food a perfect 5, the service also a 5, and the atmosphere a 5. Highly recommend! View menu

We had an amazing time enjoying dinner and drinks with my wife and kids. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the entire staff was friendly and cheerful, providing excellent service along with delicious food and drinks. This has definitely become one of our new favorite places for authentic Mexican cuisine.

Kalaveras has recently added a controversial service charge to their bills. While this charge is technically optional and can be removed upon request, it feels like a scheme that restaurants have devised to offset rising inflation costs by passing those expenses onto customers. When I asked the server to remove the charge, he told me he couldn't do so because it was automatically generated by the computer. I politely insisted that he could remove it, but he refused, claiming that the computer adds it automatically for bills over $200. It seemed either he didn't understand basic math, or he thought I was naive. In any case, I regret choosing to dine there. I've spoken to several people who wo...

"Dal Rae is an Institution and has been around since 1951. This place is totally old school, and in the best way possible. It reminds me of old, classy Hollywood with the overstuffed booths, dim lighting, piano bar and ambience. There is tableside preparation for their signature Caesar Salad and the flambe desserts, that you rarely see anymore, such as Bananas Foster and Cherries Jubiless. Romantic restaurants are no longer plentiful, and this is perfect for a first date, anniversary, birthdays, or just good food. It isn't light on the wallet, but the food is quality. We had the Oysters Rockefeller, which were the best I ever had. We also had the Crab stuffed Artichoke Bottoms you can have Crab Stuffed Mushrooms or Artichoke Bottoms, but Mushrooms you can find on other menus. Never saw the Artichoke version. .The Crab Stuffed Artichoke Bottoms melt in your mouth and were unbelievably good. We shared the prepared at your tableside Caesar Salad there is enough for 4 and again, never had a better Caesar Salad, made with their own homemade dressing, prepared right in front of you. For entrees the melt in your mouth Chilean Sea Bass was beyound comparison and the Prime Rib was as good as any place I have ever had. I was celebrating my birthday, and did not have room for dessert, but the table ordered Bananas Foster, just for the experience, and it did not disappoint. This restaurant provides an experience vs. a dinner out. Additionally, the menu is very large, and I can imagine everything is excellent. This would be my number one recommendation of any restaurants in L.A. County that I have frequented, and there have been many. This just stands alone based on the variety of menu, quality and tasted of food, the tableside experience and ambience. Too top it all off, the service was very attentive."
