"I considered dining at this restaurant tonight but ultimately decided against it due to the lack of pictures on the menu (disappointing dinner and feeling sad). It is another Hal Smith restaurant, managed by the impressive Nate Couch, who ensures that the drinks are generously poured with a good balance of strength. The menu remains largely the same, offering excellent comfort food (just be sure to wear loose-fitting pants). The highlight of the menu is the iconic chicken and waffles dish. I had a satisfying meal here and compared it to KD's Southern Cuisine. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were not overly intrusive. I was puzzled by the presence of children celebrating birthdays at the restaurant - what happened to Chuck E. Cheese? I would like to apologize for... (review continued)"

I visited VZDs last night and was happy to see that the food and atmosphere were just as good as I remembered.

This restaurant is in need of a new menu and a new chef. I struggled to find anything appetizing or nutritious on the existing menu.

I was able to eat here tonight, but no pics (business dinner and sad faced). Another Hal Smith restaurant (re-vamped from KD's Southern Cusine) under management of the capable Nate Couch. Great drinks -mixed and not overly strong, not weakly served. Still over their same menu of superb comfort food (be sure to wear loose fitting pants). Menu is barely unchanged....and yes, they still have Chicken and Waffles. Thos is what I had to compare woth KD's. Good stuff. Staff was phenomenally attentive and vigilant, but not "fly on the wall" buggy. Still not sure why parents bring kids here for birthdays. Whatever happened to Chucky Cheese's??? Either way, I'll make an excuse to come in again to try... View menu

"We ate here during the Paseo Arts Festival. We initially tried to make a reservation using Open Table, but someone from the restaurant called me a few days later to inform me that Picasso Cafe was not taking reservations during the Arts Festival. We arrived at 12:15 pm and put in our names. Our party was called just before 1:00 pm. Fortunately, we had the Arts Festival to keep us busy while we waited. I ordered the chicken and avocado sandwich. It sounded good in the menu description -- seared chicken breast, avocado slices, swiss cheese, bacon, and bourbon honey mustard. However, I ordered it without the cheese because I have been to too many places where they do not know how to melt cheese on grilled sandwiches and I don't want to be a picky customer on my second visit to a restaurant. Anyway, it was difficult to hold the sandwich together. I ended up taking the avocado slices off of it so that there was enough friction for me to hold it together and eat it. The seared chicken breast was the best part, closely followed by complimentary lettuce and tomato (crisp and cold) and the honey mustard (good mix of sweet and tangy). I ordered the napa cabbage slaw for my side dish. It was served with a light dressing so that the cabbage stood out. This is not a slaw for people who prefer not to taste the cabbage. I would like to come back and try some more things. However, if I have the chicken sandwich again, I am going to leave out both the swiss cheese and the avocado. I would also like to see if they have a wheat bun because that would pair better with this mix of flavors and textures."
