"As soon as you arrive, you get a strong sense of "hometown." The restaurant is simple yet charming, with a clean aesthetic that feels authentic. Upon entering, we were greeted by a charming country store to the left, offering T-shirts, coffee mugs, and other items in a cozy log cabin-style setting. On the right side, you find the restaurant itself. We waited a few moments to be seated, and I particularly appreciated that the entire menu was displayed on the wall while we waited, allowing us to browse our options. Now, onto the food—everything was delicious! I ordered the walleye and fries along with a Bent Paddle beer, while my younger boys opted for mini corn dogs. My oldest son was adventurous and tried fish and chips for the first time, and he loved it! We also started with chips and salsa, which had a nice kick—very spicy but absolutely tasty! All the dishes were scrumptious; my only minor complaint would be that the portion sizes were somewhat modest, but we finished every last bite and didn’t have any leftovers to take back to the hotel, which often goes to waste. The kids' meals were just the right size for them! Throughout our visit, the service was outstanding. Our two main servers were kind, friendly, and attentive, frequently checking in on us regarding refills and any additional needs. One server, who was on her first day, was incredibly complimentary and upfront about the possibility of making mistakes. Later, the head server took the time to ask where we were from, how our vacation had been, and shared some interesting history about the restaurant and motel (yes, you can stay here!). She also discussed how they have adapted since COVID, highlighting the challenges restaurants face these days. It's evident that they care deeply about their work, and I truly admire their dedication. Another thing I noticed was the diverse crowd. It wasn't just locals or tourists; there were people from all walks of life—a group of retirees, some motorcyclists, a handful of college guys enjoying drinks and food in one corner, a single mom with her two kids, and two construction workers at another table. This variety speaks volumes about the restaurant's reputation and its ability to attract repeat customers. If you're looking for great food, exceptional service, and a welcoming, down-home atmosphere, I highly recommend Camp 61. You won’t be disappointed!"
