"We had a lovely dining experience overall. The location by the lake was stunning. Unfortunately, the service could have been better. We arrived early at 6 PM when not many tables were occupied, yet it took the server over five minutes to reach our table. After finishing our main course, we had to wait a while for the server to come back and check on dessert. When it was time to settle the bill, it took quite a while for the server to return with the receipt after we presented our credit card. Even though the restaurant started to get busier, the wait to sign the receipt was still too long for us."

Very pretty setting on the lake. Good service. Food was okay-but I would return for the overall experience.

Can’t wait to go back! Might be the best restaurant in Highlands. Fabulous food, ambiance with friendly and knowable staff. View menu

An exceptional meal from start to finish. The wedge and spinach salads were delicious, as were the lobster and local trout entrees. Ask for a table on the terrace overlooking the lake, for a truly lovely setting.

We’ve been to On the Verandah many times. Food and service has always been excellent. This was our first Sunday brunch. Noise level was high due to an overly enthusiastic piano player. His was talented but choice of songs yielded a noise level which made conversation difficult where we were seated — which was inside and not on the porch. Service was a bit slower than normal. My Eggs Benedict ham was tough. That said, we will be back. View menu

Karen and I have eaten all over the world in some amazing restaurants and experienced some Michelin rated chefs. We found the cuisine at On The Verandah to be not only excellent but imaginative. A small, be very creative, selection of international wines made the evening ever that much more special. Who would have thought a restaurant on a mountain road outside of Highlands could have been so good? Before we left we made reservations for a week later, and cancelled our reservation to another well regarded restaurant in town. That should tell you something!

We enjoyed the food, which was quite good, and the lakeside setting was lovely. However, the service left something to be desired. We arrived early at 6 pm when there weren’t many tables occupied, yet it took the server over five minutes to greet us. After finishing our main course, we had to wait a bit longer before the server checked in about dessert. When it was time to settle the bill, we experienced a delay in receiving the receipt to sign after handing over our credit card. Although the restaurant was getting busier, the wait for the receipt was still too long.

"Finally. After many years of enjoyable dining in Highlands, we had a TERRIBLE dining experience at Midpoint. This was actually our third, and I'm sure our LAST bad experience at this restaurant! We will not return again. I've had bad service before, for various reasons....short staff, failed equipment, orders misplaced and/or mixed up. But in most cases the management and staff were aware and extremely apologetic. Today at Midpoint they seemed oblivious to the numerous complaints from the surrounding tables and taking over two hours to complete lunch. 1/2 hr. waiting for appetizers. 20 more min, waiting for salad. Then almost an hour more waiting for the main course. Ice tea glasses not refilled for over an hr. When we asked the server pouring water about some added tea, they stated that they “only poured water” and I'd “have to ask our waiter for more tea”. And when the main courses came the pork loin was so salty it was almost inedible. The rest of the food (fish and chips, empanadas, black beans, saffron rice, etc. . we're all lukewarm at best, and nothing beyond ordinary. When contrasted with the many outstanding restaurants in Highlands (Madison's, Lakeside, Wolfgang's, Paoletti, Wild Thymes, etc. Midpoint is way out of their league. They've got to improve significantly to even become mediocre! When our expediter/server asked about our experience, we answered candidly and politely explained the poor service we had received and the below average food, she was incredulous. What is really sad is the fact that Midpoint is the latest evolution of the restaurant Cyprus which, when it was located out on Hwy. 106 (Dillard Rd. , was one of the finest restaurants in Highlands, if not the entire SE. Very, very sad indeed."
