"Last night we went to the Pickle Barrel at the promenade mall. 12 people in all gathered for dinner after attending a wedding rehearsal. The restaurant was fairly empty. We were seated at a long table and ordered our dinners. Despite being fairly empty, it took a very long time for our dinners to arrive. Meanwhile, the diners behind us had left leaving what looked like a good part of their meal behind and nobody came to clear the table for a very long time after these people had left. There were other tables also not cleared where people had eaten dinner. NOT a pleasant sight to see when you are waiting for your food .. One of the people in our party carries an Epi pen due to food allergies and despite telling our server who could barely understand what she was saying, instead of calling the management, proceeded to bring the wrong order to the table not once but twice. Our food was awful. My husband and I ordered different salads but both came with chicken breast the chicken was so dry, it was inedible. No point in asking for another salad each being that time was marching on, it was getting late and to be honest, NO ONE liked their food. However, one person did ask to order a dessert and was told by our server that he couldn't bring dessert as they had to close the restaurant to spray for cockroaches. We all felt ill after hearing this. We just couldn't wait to get out of there. A really awful experience. NO WAY WOULD ANY ONE OF US GO BACK TO THE PICKLE BARREL EVER AGAIN!!"

The Mediterranean burger - meat wasn't good tasted mouldy. French toast - not cooked properly - wasn't soaked in the batter Spoke to the manager. She gave us half off the burger. Not sure if we'll return. We've been coming for 20 years to this location, but this is just another bad experience here.

The food is much better then the service - every time, it's just not a once off bad service. You can't fault the kitchen nor the deli and salad counters, the food comes out great. I have no doubt their problem begins with management. I give the food five stars, the rest is disappointing. The restaurant could be a lot cleaner was well.

In Toronto and the greater Toronto area there are several of these restaurants with large and varied menu for breakfast, brunch lunch or dinner. The first Pickle Barrel came into existence about 40 years ago. Food is good and tasty and reasonably priced with good and friendly wait staff. Not a foodie Resturant but good place for a causal meal with family and or friends.

Treated a friend to dinner - enjoyed the atmosphere and variety of food to choose from. Always have the cabbage borscht to start and always have a hard choice to make - choose the battered fish and chips (always a winner) served with coleslaw and pickle. Unlimited soft drinks and my friend did have a coctail. All in all - not rushed, cordial wait staff and friendly and comfortable atmosphere. View menu

What a disappointment. They need good management who can ORGANIZE the staff and their duties to keep things flowing. Food was good but the time it took to get it was ridiculous. It wasn't the kitchen, I sat and watched the food come up and sit under the heat lamps for 12 minutes exactly. Naturally I returned the food when I tasted the eggs that were at the best warm. It's a shame really, the kitchen has their act together just not the floor staff.

Living in the area, I frequent this location about 8 times a year. While the food is usually good, I find more often than not, that the service is subpar. From the 5 minute wait at an EMPTY reception desk to 10 minute spans between waiter follow up in a HALF EMPTY restaurant!4 minutes after my table had been served the waiter came over to advise me that they were unable to serve me my main course as they ran out of Pesto sauce. If you've read any of my other reviews you will see I rarely give a negative review.Just horribly dissatisfies and can only say to go if you really need to.

Went here for dinner before going to movie. Nothing fancy, just wanted a good deli sandwich. The original Pickle Barrel on Leslie St was really good. Not this place. First, fire the dishwasher. The coffee cup was served with lipstick. The server should have noticed it. Sent it back. Arrived much later and it was cold. Sent it back again and told that a fresh pot was in the works. The corned beef on rye did not remind me of what a Deli corned beef sandwich should taste like. The fries were cold. The cole slaw was served in a tiny cup not much bigger than a tablespoon. The chicken Caesar salad had so little chicken in it you had to hunt for it under the lettuce. Well you get the point. Stay aw... View menu

After being seated, we had to wait at least 15 minutes before our waitress came to the table. She did apologize, and it was between Christmas and New Years, so they must have been short staffed. The food delivered was not what was on the menu, so it was sent back. They got it wrong the second time as well. The manager came over to apologize...I was finished my dinner when my wife's food finally arrived correctly done. The food itself was mediocre to poor, which is the norm for this restaurant (yeah, I know, why go there?...it is walking distance from home....bad excuse, but it's the default for eat now). When the bill came, we were charged full price...no free coffee, dessert or discount for th...

There are Pickle Barrels all around town. This has to be my worst experience so far. Can't give them a total fail but I won't be going back there anytime soon. The service is slow with less than half capacity. The place is in disarray and maybe they need to look inwards and make some changes.I was there with my wife, Mom, and Mom-in-law for an early dinner. I swear, as we get older, I think Dinner goes from 6-7PM-ish to 4PM-ish!The Ginger Chicken Bites appetizer was horrid - overly salty and no other flavours. The Moroccan Cigars were not worth the price I paid - especially when we all know it's a frozen mid-east spring roll that they deep fry. I only ordered it since I haven't tried them in...

"Met a first date here for dinner this evening. At first glance nice modern setting interesting decor with a California feel. Waited at the hostess stand for 5 minutes, was first in line and the greeter seated the people behind me in line first. This is where the nightmare began. We both ordered the tuna tartar (rip off of The Kegs dish of the same name) and while fresh and delicious it's a tiny portion approximately 1/4 of the size of The Kegs, which also costs $1.00 less. My date ordered the crab cakes which she enjoyed and I ordered the strip steak with mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and something that resembled a vegetable. They brought the apps and 30 seconds later arrived with my steak and asked me "Where do you want this?" I replied "We just received our appetizers. Please bring our dinners after we finish our appetizers." I received a perplexed look and off he went. I've titled this bring a flag because I had to keep flagging down our server to keep water glasses full, get coffee, etc. The restaurant was not very busy and the service was terrible. When my steak arrived it looked like a prime rib. I specified I wanted it black and blue, charred on the outside and rare in the middle. What arrived didn't even look like a steak. When the server came back to enquire how the meal was I said "I thought I ordered steak" he replied "that is our strip steak". Given my date was charming and lovely I was less concerned about schooling our 12 year old server about what black and blue is and the proper means of cooking a black and blue steak. Earlier I enquired about peppercorn sauce and the server said he'd bring ground pepper. Clearly the server had little to no training. I'm not quite sure what that was I ate but it was red and resembled beef so I dove in. I think it was one of those glued together steaks I've been reading about and it was clearly just sliced off a roast that was precooked hence why I asked if it was prime rib. After flagging down another server (ours had vanished) to get us coffee we had an abrupt young lady with a truck stop attitude deliver our coffees. Since I was having a blast with my date I really didn't care and started sharing funny restaurant stories. When our coffees where gone I again flagged down the server for more and got our bill which was $113 for 3 apps (she is tiny and eats 2 apps for dinner), 1 dinner, 2 cocktails and 2 coffees. As the server stood there I was in the middle of a story about crappy service in restaurants and that I tip 2% when I receive crappy service. You know crappy service = crappy tip. I then tipped the server 2% which he responded with a Zorro like rip of my receipt from the machine and pouted away to wherever it was he vanished to all night. I'm still not sure what the red stuff was I ate but the date was a huge success and I'm picking the next restaurant. Note: I tried to use another word besides crappy but Trip Advisor said "no profanity" the other word, beginning with S, best describes my experience. Don't waste your money."
