"I was looking for a special place to spend my birthday and decided on Purple Shell. I don?t really enjoy driving into Boston anymore as it can be really overwhelming but I figured it was a special occasion and so I forged ahead. We made a reservation for 7:30 and when I arrived there was a crowd of people around the hostess desk. Complete chaos!! People yelling that they had reservations and why weren?t they seated, fighting back and forth with each other and with the host.I was really starting to feel I may have made a mistake coming here. HOWEVER understanding that many restaurants are understaffed right now I attempted to remain calm and actually apologized to the host for the other peoples unnecessarybehavior. Eventually I checked in as well and was told they would seat me ASAP. Service was extremely slow and we spent about 3 hours in total here but I had expected it. The food was tasty when it did eventually come out. Fresh sushi andincredible drinks. I was very impressed with the quality and flavor. My recommendation is to try to go here on a weekday and to make sure you make a reservation before you head over. Be patient with the staff as there is only so much theycan control."

Really good place to take your girlfriends parents, or a date, or anytime really. The food is delicious and fairly priced, the service is lovely, the ambiance is trendy, and the location cant be beat. The sushi is very fresh so you gotta check this place out. 10/10 would recommend!

Amazing restaurant?perfect for a fancier dinner setting. The inside is gorgeous and the presentation of all the food was so nice! The taste certainly lived up to the appearance. We really loved the fire salmon, but we also got various other dishes all of which were so good. It is expensive, but definitely recommend for a nice occasion. View menu

In A Nutshell: -Purple Shell is one of the BEST Japanese restaurants I've ever eaten at. -They have very unique presentation styles. -The food not only looks good, but it tastes extremely good too. -This place should earn a Michelin star+ -Check out all of the photos to see all the delicious dishes we ordered. -The location is off the Broadway T stop is very easy to get to find. -You can also walk from Seaport along the Harborwalk which takes about 20minutes. Overall, come grab a meal here if you are in Boston, you won't regret it, but you will if you don't come!

Great place for sushi but docking a point for service. My takeout experience has always been smooth, orders are always right and mostly on time. Dined in recently and maybe it was just a slower night, but it was extremely difficult having to get any the attention of any waiter/waitress. They finally asked for our drink order 30 min after we sat down, but only because we went to the host stand to ask. Service was still slow after that but it did improve. The food is really good but I don't think I'll dine-in again. Sashimi: 4/5Salmon Lover: 5/5Sushi Special: 4/5Torched Salmon Press: 5/5Volcano Maki: 4/5Gao's Chicken: 4/5

I recently dined at Purple Shell, a sushi spot in Boston, and was thoroughly impressed by the unique experience. One standout dish was the salmon roasted over fire, which was both visually stunning and delicious. The cocktail selection was fun and creative, adding to the overall vibe of the restaurant. The atmosphere was lively and the seating plentiful, providing a comfortable dining experience. While parking may have been a challenge, it was a small inconvenience compared to the fantastic food and atmosphere of Purple Shell. I highly recommend checking out this sushi spot for its innovative dishes and enjoyable atmosphere. View menu

This was a date night location- nice quality sushi and decor but since we dined during a non peak hour I believe we probably missed out on atmosphere as it was pretty quiet and nearly empty when we dined. Very nice service for sure, but it has a bit of a barren quality when the dining areas are not full- wish they could add some kind of warmth or texture to the restaurant decor to make it feel less sterile. Sushi quality was indeed indeed good and we also had the uni shots. We used a parking app and parked at the Cambria hotel valet which was super convenient across the street, there are cheaper options but a further walk away.

Pedro from Brazil was our host and he was so friendly and kind he gave us samples of wine and my cocktail he suggested was amazing and on fire the lamb chops was juicy and tender and flavorful and the teriyaki Salmon was very fulfilling and good and he brought out sides of rice for no charge and two green tea shots free of charge it was my first time and won’t be my last the fact that you can choose regular seating with lighting or the bar seating which was a darker atmosphere with music playing was also a treat he offered different flavors of Japanese cheesecake but I had no room please go visit them and tell them DjLive sent you

"No soup/sandwich shop compares in terms of price per quality, portion size, and different options in the area. I only started ordering from here about 2 weeks ago and I’ve now had 7 different kinds of soups and 4 different kinds of sandwiches after the first order I started ordering two soups and a sandwich aka a soup to save for later because they’re just that good, every one of them. Price is so very reasonable and depending on which combo you get you can make out with a full sized sandwich and large sized homemade soup for $14.While it’s hard to recommend one thing over another in this circumstance since it’s all been great in their own ways, the Chicken Chowder is something I plan on getting a quart of next time it’s available. The Chicken Barley and Chicken Lemon Rice are ones I plan on getting quarts of in the future as well, and that’s not to discount the Chicken Noodle, Beef and Veg Noodle Stew, French Onion, and the current seasonal Chilled Gazpacha (which I probably wouldn’t have even tried it wasn’t from these guys . It’s all top quality. The Chicken Tarragon sandwich is my favorite in terms of sandwiches although it can’t combo with a soup as of now (please let us! . The best cheap soup combo sandwich is a tossup between the Cilantro Tuna and Ciabatta Sandwich, which are both incredible in their own ways. The only few drawbacks to this place are they don’t have every soup they make every day, are only open until 4PM, and aren’t open on the weekends. That said it’s worth it to plan accordingly for this. I never review anything but this place is worth it it’s the best if you’re a soup and sandwich person like I am."
